Mark Zuckerberg(and others) reiterates case for basic income

in blog •  7 years ago

Mark Zuckerberg few weeks ago made a big speech for governments to start giving a basic income to all citizens irrespective of whether they are working or not. He is back at it again but now he is in Alaska and using them as an example.

The reason he says he wants this to happen is that he succeeded because he had "a strong support network" to help him achieve and thats what this basic income would be. Even if you fail in an endeavor you are supported.

In Alaska the state government introduced in 1976 a fund that gathers oil revenue the state receives and pays out each citizen once a year a "dividend" from that pool which was $1000 last year. Its extra income for all whether youre a millionaire or struggling to pay your rent. He also said the great thing about it they didnt have to raise taxes to do it.

Now he is not the only one advocating this. Elon Musk's reasons are slightly different but he supports it due to more and more robots taking our jobs.

You also might have heard of the bond king Bill Gross agreed with them saying "if this strikes you as socialism, I would suggest we get used to it".

You might think its only a few celebrities there are more such as Martin Luther King Junior. He wrote "I am now convinced that the simplest approach will prove to be the most effective — the solution to poverty is to abolish it directly by a now widely discussed measure: the guaranteed income".

Stephen Hawking(theoretical physicist), Bernie Sanders(recent presidential candidate) and Friedrich Hayek(the famous economist) points out that this is not a new notion but one that has been developing and now seems to be ready for implementation as economy stagnates and jobs are going.

It seems that socialism is taking over. Better load up on gold/silver and cryptos.

I think we will see a peace dividend income system. But it will exist on the blockchain and without the necessity of government/taxes/etc.

If there is so many people not working and government has to pay them, why would they need them, in other words theyll create famine /disease/war... to get rid of "undesirables"

Did you read my comment? "But it will exist on the blockchain and without the necessity of government/taxes/etc."

Yep did, just saying what I think will happen

I think Zuckerberg knows that if people have a basic income without having to work, they'll spend even more time on Facebook.

Good point didnt think of it that way

He's so out of touch with reality, despite what words come out of his mouth.
