When the dust settles...

It's been nearly a month since my last post, ironically titled: "Our streaming hiatus is coming to an end" in which I detailed a few reasons why I had to take a short break from streaming because of strep throat, the hurricane, and some other issues. My wife ( @reptimom88 ) and I were ready to jump back on the Unicorn that was the combination of @STEEM and DLive (a wonderful marriage of live streaming and blockchain technology), allowing my wife and I to earn @STEEM rewards for providing gaming content that brings people together with us doing what we love, all while having full, fee-less control over the rewards we made. Gosh it feels like a dream at this point...

A mere hours after I wrote this and posted it to my blog...

P.s. The show must go on...
Expect streams from my Wife and I on DLive very soon ;)

The CEO of DLive announced the split...

Now that the dust has settled from the ugly divorce I can actually post a proper update as to where my wife and I stand. At this point in time, because of the reaction from the @Steemit community my wife has decided to cut ties and stop creating content for the Steemit platform. I happen to think she is not at fault for her decision because it's true, the reactions from a large majority of Steemians was highly immature. What should've just been a simple "Bye Felicia" moment, was stretched out for days on end with insults, accusations, and downvotes galore for anyone whose opinion was not in alignment.

In @ericwilson's post titled: I am bummed he writes...

I am hurt and I am devastated by the one-on-one interactions I have had on here and the tribalism that has made me feel like I am not welcome on here if I do not blindly follow the tribe without question.

I believe that's exactly how most of us "non-exclusive Steemians" felt at the time. That's most certainly how I felt and that's why my wife decided against staying with @STEEM. The tribalism and piranha like reaction from Steemians was only pushing folks out the door along with DLive instead of encouraging them to use whatever platform best fits their content. I'm a live streamer at heart. I was a streamer before I was a Steemian, and it was because of @STEEM that I was able to not just be a streamer but a blogger as well, and I loved that!

But damn, this ecosystem is brutal!

I posted this in response to @ericwilson:

It really is a shame to see so many loyal to the blockchain turn on anyone that had any affiliation with dlive and took even a slightly unbiased approach towards the split. I am a witness to you getting completely slammed by whale downvotes, as if they were doing it without even thinking. It did make me realize that there is no independence on this blockchain. One person alone can't stand and speak, and earn what the true perceived value of his or her words are worth.

That last sentence contains a very import set of words. True perceived value. Value based on ones honest perspective. It's that statement that has made me conjure up an idea for a new streaming platform that can adopt that concept. In a market free from manipulation and corruption the value of a product or service is determined by the investors honest perception, so they invest whatever they feel is comfortable with them. Needless to say, that got me thinking...

A new platform where content creators like myself can receive an honest value based on the perception of their audience. I've only been able to put a brainstorm of ideas together on a neat little app called Scapple, and I'm pretty pleased with the results so far, but it seems this project is way over my head but I am learning as much as I can about being a Full Stack Developer as possible. But I think it goes without saying that this could take years to get off the ground, but I am determined to see it through and hopefully pull a few others together because I simply cannot do this alone, so if there's anyone here that knows a thing or two about this kinda stuff, hit me up on Discord (JoeOhs#0714) and I would love to share my ideas.

However... If your loyalties lie solely with the @STEEM blockchain than this project may not be for you, because I am being very selective with the blockchain this project ends up, which is something that the DLive crew didn't do, right? At least I'm coming out now and saying it. I want the blockchain best suited for this endeavor and @STEEM may not be it, but then again I don't know all there is to know about @STEEM and SMTs so maybe someone here can fill me in on the tech and we can best weight the options.

But for now things on our end are still pretty rough. We're inching our way closer and closer to the end of our lease and still have no idea where we will end up, could be Ohio, could be Texas, but if we're lucky I'll land a decent job within the next couple months and we can stay here in NC, but the chances of that are slim considering JavaScript is kickin' my ass at the moment.

Our #streamlife is non-existent but that may change. I have been strongly considering moving back to twitch after seeing the new DLive and being completely let down, but there is also @vimm and it looks promising, however, there is little to no audience and if they implement ads that would be a complete turn off, but I would also have ads on twitch, but the trade off there is I would have my old audience back...
So...
IDK...
Maybe a dual stream on both would be best?

The struggle is so real...

Hey @joeohs, thanks for considering Vimm. About the adds it's true that we might implement them one day. we will, however, make sure that if we do they don't interfere with the user experience and as such we will never have aggressive ads on the platform.

We also don't exclude anything yet, so stuff like: sharing revenue with the streamer, making them only accessible for partner streamers. The day that they are implemented we'll gladly take the time to optimize them together with the community/communities

About the viewers. We don't show a fake number as DLive did. That's true, there is no sudden jump from 0 viewers to 20. Those where either just an added fake viewers or additional connections to websockets (I've pushed my stream up to more than 100 "viewers" a few times to prove that the viewer count was fake, all I did was made a script that opened the websocket connection a 100 times). Overlays work in the same way that is why every overlay you added or with every tab you opened your stream it counted for an additional viewer. So while the viewer count might seem lower on Vimm the real people watching are the same.

What it comes down too is that your channel is your brand and it's up to you to promote yourself. I've seen streamers that already had a audience before joining Vimm have a more than decent audience engagement and chat activity. We don't prohibit anyone from dual streaming (with the exclusion of some events we sponsor and maybe partnered streamers in the future) you should be able to maximize your reach to new potential viewers however you see fit and we don't want to put restrictions on that.

I hope we can welcome you on @vimm :)
