@photocontests Accounts Do Not Have Enough Bandwidth!

Bandwidth issues

Steem is growing! Which is very nice, however with growth comes growing pains. The sudden influx of users stresses the network. There is a bandwidth allocation system in place to prevent spam and divide available bandwidth based on steem power during high traffic times.

Since @photocontests puts out a lot of comments, >1000 per day. It suffers when the network is at peak capacity.

There are currently 4 account dealing with responding to all tagged photos. I have been delegating steem power to each of them and this is still nog enough. This is the first time the main account, which holds the most steem power has seen its bandwidth fully drained.

Solution

I will be reworking how many comments go out and implement upvoting in batches. There are times of the day when there is less traffic. I will be collecting all posts to be upvoted and perform the upvotes in when there is less traffic. Expect some changes coming this week.

I did not get a comment/upvote

Your entry is still valid for the contests, I do the contests manually. Also xp is still being rewarded even if you did not get a comment/upvote. Sorry if you did not get an upvote. I hope to solve that in the near future.

Need more power!

Thanks for all of the effort you put into these contests! I guess growing pains are inevitable, and a good problem to have.

...and looking on the bright side, at least you nearly have 100% voting power.

I agree it is part of something positive. About the voting power, it is designed to stay around 95% so there ius not that much to gain there :P

Thanks for taking the time to update contest participants. I'm new to posting contest entries. I've entered two photos so far, one each day for two days. I'm wondering if I'm posting in a recommended format or if there are changes you suggest. Also, do users choose any theme they feel fits their photo subject, or choose from a list of available themes? Are there only certain days that the theme "winter" is relevant for example, or can I share a winter theme anytime? There are so many photo contests and tags, I haven't learned how they all work yet. I'll appreciate any feedback!

I guess the main things are to make reference to the name of the contests and who started it, and put the tag of the contest in the tags line. You can check the end of @photocontests' posts to see the contests sponsored by @juliank. I hope I've helped!

Before I knew contest details, I saw smartphone photography entries in my feed and was inspired to enter one during my road trip over the weekend. I happened to post a smartphone photo on the correct day, Saturday:

The next day I posted another using the smartphone tag again because I hadn't learned the daily categories for Sunday:
https://steemit.com/smartphonephotography/@mininthecity/smartphone-photography-sentinel-skis
I'm learning :) I appreciate the friendly advice and comments I've received!

Oh I found that now, a list with which categories @juliank is hosting contests for each weekday. Thanks, very helpful! I posted two smartphone contest entries and one was on the wrong weekday. Lesson learned :) It will be fun taking photos for various categories.

I was just about to say – two subjects per day, as listed at the bottom of the winner announcements on the @photocontests blog. Be sure you get your entry in before UTC+1 as that is when the contest clock resets to a new day. As well, make sure you've included the correct tag for the relevant subject so the bot can find you! ;)
hello, btw! this is @zipplyo – I relocated to this account a couple weeks ago!

Well hello! I really want to make more time to peruse and support blogs, including yours. Glad to hear from you! Thanks for the tips! Your photography is excellent. For now, I'm working with phone photos. It's fun to look through my giant collection that I didn't know what to do with :) Now to google current UTC. I live in the Central Time Zone of the US...

Was happy to find your post in the entries for Friday. ;) One can do a lot with a phone. It's really the seeing that matters.

Agreed!

So, I've been posting my entries way too late according to UTC+1. Thanks again for the information! How does one find out the timeline without a helpful comment such as yours? Still riding the steemit learning curve :)

Dang - I hope a simple, painless solution for this is discovered soon. In the meantime, I know it's not much, but - tip!

Hi @juliank! You have received 0.1 SBD tip + 0.05 SBD @tipU from @traciyork :)

Tipuvote! - upvote any post with with 2.5 x profit :)

this is a serious problem. I see new steemians complaining about this a lot. they can not do anything their bandwidth run out

It's a problem, but the user is partially at fault. I feel like too many new steemians spam the system when they first onboard hoping to hit the jackpot somewhere. There's just too many "Please upvote my post" comments out there.

It is true. currently the new steemian uses steemit only for SBD.

Now i know! Thank you for the information sir! We are growing now. Yessir!

nice...foolback ok...salam steemit

good luck with all this mess, i didnt know its so much people on it now)) I appreciate these contests without comments or upvote anyway. Thank you to manage all this stuff and again good luck with this big job!

There is a LOT of traffic today especially. A lot of big accounts are hitting bandwidth limits today.
Does the file size affect bandwidth? or is it just per transaction? Does anybody know?

Thanks for working for community, your job is Incredible.

Thanks for all the hard work and keep going my friend @juliank

Can anyone tell why sometimes I post and the bot don't comment in my photos? I'm sure that I'm using the correct tags, but only sometimes the bot comments in my photos.

All part of the fun, your growing a monster of a contest @juliank :)

why?

I experienced the bandwidth issue this afternoon about 4hrs ago while trying to edit my post for the contest. it suddenly popped up the message about the bandwidth issue. At first I didn't know what to do, I taught my entry was invalid. But after reading through, it was suggested that I should power up which I wasn't capable if doing so. I hope the problem is rectified soon.
Also about the upvote and comment, it seem it has been fair to me. At least as someone who just started participating in the contest have been receiving one or two upvotes and comments. You guys should keep up the good job.

Hi Julia, the bot doesnt pick up on all of my pictures I enter. Was just wondering why that is?

What a hard work you are doing julian , can we in anyway help you? .
It's a great help what you are doing for us.
My support
Cheers ;)

Thx for the interesting bandwidth update, have also noticed slight delays. Hoping the Steem blockchain can really scale up beyond 1 Million users soon. Maybe witnesses need to run more powerful machines, increase block size etc. Sounds quite familiar btw 😆 But I am optimistic that the devs can find a solution together with the Witnesses 🚀

I hope you will recover early @juliank , because you Help a lot in us :) Godbless

I have this problem for more than a month now... very annoying...

I've just accepted that I'll be locked out of my account until late afternoon every day. Doubling my steem power, posting and upvoting less has had little impact - I like to think I'm posting good content and interacting well with people instead of spamming, so it's discouraging to write a big post and then have to wait most of the day to reply to comments.

I'd like to know what can be done to help out the situation, because Steemit won't grow well if the system prevents people from interacting freely without putting in several hundred dollars worth of SP.

Don't worry about that. What you do is amazing!! Greetings from Vietnam. If I can delegate you some steem power if that helps just let me know

Hi @juliank, your efforts and support especially to newbie like me is sincerely appreciated. Love your concepts and contests. Big thanks!

I could not comment yesterday in the afternoon. I'm keeping a tab with steemd open now to check my bandwidth before doing anything. :/

Had this problem lately but didn't know what's the reason. Thanks for making me understand now :)

ahh thanks for the update @juliank , i was wondering earlier, cause no upvote & comment as usual, thought i put a wrong tagged :P hehe Good to hear the contests is still continue :)

nice vote

Thanks for all your effort. I have come to appreciate this challenge as the single most inclusive activity on steemit. No language barrier with photography!

Going pains ig good! Let us know how we can help! Not sure if this has been addressed, but the XP for 5 comments a day is also not working.

Thanks for the info newbie here!

Thank you for explaining @juliank. I received error messages when trying to post. Had to wait to post later... appreciate all that you do to keep this going!

Thanks for this update @juliank! I was convinced the bot was only able to see my posts, but not my comments. Now I understand!

When this contest started @julianks was very nice but now she is under pressure ,if there is any way I can help please let me know, you are doing a great job.

Thanks for all you do here! The dreaded bandwidth message; it's been an issue for a lot of us for sure, but I really wanted you to know how much I appreciate people like you on steemit who selflessly toil away trying to make it all better :) Cheers!!

Terimakasih banyak #juliank atas informasinya
