In today's weed news we talk about treating psychosis with CBD.
It's no secret that cannabidiol can be very helpful in dealing with physical ailments such as muscle spasms, epilepsy and pain just to name a few.
And now a recent study published in the respected American Journal of Psychiatry is reporting that cannabidiol is also an affective treatment for schizophrenia patients experiencing psychotic behaviors.
This 6-week long study followed two groups of schizophrenic patients. The control group only took their regular medication as usual and the other group added CBD and kept everything else the same. At the end of the 6 weeks the rates of psychotic behavior episodes in the CBD group were found to be significantly lower!
Conversely to the baseless claim that consuming marijuana will mess up your brain chemistry leading to psychotic behavior (a beloved talkingpoint of anti-cannabis advocates), the researchers of this particular study concluded that "... these findings suggest that CBD has beneficial effects in patients with schizophrenia. As CBDs effects do not depend on dopamine receptor antagonisem, this agent may represent a new class of treatment for the disorder."
That is fantastic news not only for those suffering from such disorders but also further pro-cannabis movement.
