Happy Bicycle Day!

( Albert Hoffman: Chemist Who Invented LSD - google images )

On April 19th, 1943 the forefather of LSD Albert Hoffman decided to intentionally dose himself with 250mcg of a substance he'd created only 5 years prior working for Sandoz.

Anyone who has done research into LSD would tell you the threshold dose is less than 1/10th of that or roughly 20mcg (micrograms) meaning Hoffman would have been "high as shit".

It's called bicycle day because after taking the LSD he asked his co-worker to escort him home and they rode bicycles instead of driving automobiles as it was WWII and gas restrictions were in place.

When he finally got home he swore his next door neighbour was a witch, that he may have gone insane and that the LSD e'd eaten may have poisoned him. He called the doctor and had them come check him out. Ended up besides some extremely dilated pupils to be completely healthy and normal. He even managed to write in his journal about the experience:

"... Little by little I could begin to enjoy the unprecedented colors and plays of shapes that persisted behind my closed eyes. Kaleidoscopic, fantastic images surged in on me, alternating, variegated, opening and then closing themselves in circles and spirals, exploding in colored fountains, rearranging and hybridizing themselves in constant flux ..." -Albert Hoffman

Regardless of if you've dabbled with LSD you have to respect the substance. It's one of the physically safest psychedelics know to man and also one of the most beautiful experiences I ever had personally in my life. Not to say I recommend drug use.. But everyone should LSD atleast once in their life time in my opinion to say they have done it & see what it actually is.

What a great day!

One of the better days in humanity.

No... no... klye ! I do not want to try it. That is okay when you try it once, but we have to know about our limitation ! Nice ! :)

Ok... You don't have to try it.. More for me! :D

Limitation is good. Drugs can be bad!

Happy bicycle day, @klye.

LSD is one of the most profoundly life-changing drugs I've imbibed. I agree that it is a beautiful experience!

It's not one that I find has the addictive qualities other substances have. I can go months or years without having a LSD trip.. But I am getting to the point I't almost been 6 months.. Perhaps bicycle day trippin!

Happy Bicycle Day to you too.
Tripper :-)

Was debating a wee trip tonight! Have to see how I feel later.

Your post has inspired me too.
I have 5 days off work this weekend.
Perhaps tomorrow?
Aye!

This :) happy steeming psychonautical brethren.

AYe, Same to you captain!

Happy bicycle day and nice post, @kyle :) Hope you had a good one ;) I follow you :)

I've not started the festivities yet!

I have never done LSD before but I am not mad about it. What will be, will be. Happy bicycle day!

The king knows he is naked with LSD.:)
LSD can induce a state of the feeling like meeting a new real person(me) that is what I would be if I was not "educated" under the constraints of society and feel the real connection to nature and other people.
Looks like that would be your true self without all the false selves we were educated, like a mask that psychedelics unveil.
The problem I see today is that they are taking "Synthesized LSD" instead of Distilled LSD. There are big differences in effects and in self-awareness.
The second is very artificial, gives more "body power", but it seems to short the regressive catharsis of the initial trip.
It seems to me that the artificial LSD, people talk more to themselves than they feel the spirit inter-experience with others.
This essay is very good to understand the genesis of the LSD phenomena.
LSD Purity: Cleanliness Is Next To Godlinessby Bruce Eisner 1977 Originally published in High Times
So today I don't take LSD (unless I find some pure, wich I doubt), I'm limited to nature by shrooms and S. Pedro.

I like that opening sentence. It is very true!

It can be a problem sourcing good LSD for sure. Lots of nasty research chemicals out there that mimics it's effects but do not have the same safety profile and LD50.
