Well For Fuck Sakes.. When it Rains it Pours!

in blog •  5 years ago  (edited)

Summer up here in central Canada has been almost entirely leaning towards the drought side this year, with for some god forsaken reason the last 3 days deciding to finish off summer by dumping well over 300% the amount of rain over the prior 2 days than we had the entire 4 months before.. Of course this sucks dick for farmers, as a lot of this precipitation was seen as small marble to golf ball sized hail coupled with nasty fuckin' wind gusts and followed up by a metric pisston of rain.

Needless to say, the ground got reeaaaaallly saturated with the rain and other precipitation.. Then the dumbass neighbors decided to aim their rain downspouts towards the side of our place.. Of course the foundation of the apartment then decides it's no longer able to withstand the onslaught of water and begins pissing rainwater in through the basement walls, essentially creating it's own river system right through the center of the living room, wonderful. Luckily the landlord here is a pretty stand up guy and brought over a shop vac and a handful of fans in order to dry the place out before it starts growing nastiness.

PC tower got wet, carpet and linoleum got soaked and may need replaced, currently sitting with a dehumidifier and 2 fans blowing the moisture up out of the floors and walls. Shit kind of sucks but hopefully we've got enough done in the ways of drying the issue out that we don't end up with a mold problem later... Got lucky and my PC tower still powers on, So at least even in all this chaos something of a saving grace was had, certainly can't afford to replace the damn thing at the moment.

Get out of central Canada before this winter.

If not able to do so, prepare to be snowed in and without power for a month.
3 months worth of food and firewood, you need.

I'll be hunting rabbits and the neighbors instead of starving. :D

The rain is a blessing but a curse when things get wet inside the house @klye :D
I hope that you are able to cope, climate change is real. :/

I'm doing ok man. A bit of a set back and hopefully everything dries up in the next few days. Other than that I can't complain.

There is no need to tag every post with witness. Technically it has nothing to do with steem tag either.

Fair enough!

I still ain't found time to read the white paper some people like to explore their way

This is awful. Glad the damage isn't too bad.
I never keep PC towers on the floor. Even a few inches will save you from small floods or spills or in my case heated floors (I'd probably keep it up higher in a basement). Also, I once had a PC tower with fans in the top. It seems nice from a cooling perspective (super fancy water cooling), however, then you gotta worry about water (or in my case a coin) falling in there.

Certainly realize that keeping a PC close to the floor is a bad idea.. If not for the very least dust build up..

I've got fancy water cooling on this rig.. Only damage I see is that the radiator is a bit detached from someone moving it.. Oh well.
