You're right; you don't need to beat the market (or anyone else for that matter), you just need to be more successful than doing nothing. At the beginning of this month, I read reviews of the 'hot penny stocks of the month', see if any have potential, and place a meager bet, in the hopes that one or more of them takes off (i.e., DCTH earlier this month, which I bought in late May).
