Winter Trip to Jasper Alberta Canada Part 2

Here’s the continuation

From the border, we decided to head straight to Maligne Lake which is an hour and fifteen minutes from the town.

From Jasper, we took Highway No.16. The road basically follows the flow of the Athabasca River, a glacial river which has its origin in the Columbia Icefield.

We then took the turn-off onto Maligne Road and the scenery changed dramatically.

The broad plains made way for thick forests and as we drove along the foothills of the dramatic snow-capped mountains, we were treated to magnificent close-ups of the geology of the area. I took a lot of road pictures just to warn you guys. ✌

The road continues past gorgeous forests and stunning panoramas of the mountains.

While we were driving, the sun came through the trees and I took this picture of my ring.

Medicine Lake

Along the way, is arguably one of the highlights of this drive and a must stop - Medicine Lake. This fascinating lake is subject of local Indian folklore due to a unique characteristic: it simply "vanishes". This lake depends on melted glacier water to fill up and it changes drastically with each season.

Maligne Lake

We soon reached Maligne Lake and the views were simply phenomenal. We were wowed with the beauty of it. From the snow-capped peaks and glaciers, to the semi frozen water, it felt magical.

We hung out there for a while. Enjoying the magnificent view and appreciating nature but sadly we had to go to our next stop.
