After ten years of existence, Audi has rethink the visual identity of its Audi Q5. Finished round shapes «master key», the SUV muscles and imposes its charisma.
The Single Frame 3D grille
A distinctive feature of the new generation of «Q» (SUV) ranges, the imposing beveled hexagonal grille implements character on the front and frustrates massiveness through tortured lines and volume play. Designed as a single piece, it is the starting point of several lines that bind it to other elements such as the front bumper, the profile or even the rear face. The idea of its continuous lines is the key to propose a homogeneous and dynamic design.
The hood
In prolongation of lines initiated by the grille, the double-scratch on the hood reinforces the sporting aspect of the Q5 by segmenting the flat surfaces. In fact, the outer fold emphasizes the wings and ensures the masculinity of the design. From the inside it gives the impression of being at the wheel of a sports vehicle.
The navigation screen
A misstep. The designers have not decided to integrate this 8.3-inch screen that gathers the whole system of infotainment of the car. Its implementation impedes the dynamics of the upper part of the passenger compartment.
The first reflex is of course to press it. Do not try it will happen nothing: to command it you will use a wheel and a touchpad with haptic feedback both located on the central tunnel. Their ergonomics and the good reactivity compensate, but one would still prefer a touch screen. See the good side of things: there will be no fingerprints on the screen.
The wheel
The multifunction steering wheel, neither too big nor too thick, offers a set of shapes an ergonomic exemplary. It takes a set of commands very practical but is not overloaded. Ultimate detail, signature of Audi: the resumption in its center of the design of the grille. As an individual I would advise you the flat-flying version of the S-Line finish. Even more aesthetic and pleasant in hand.
The hatchback
Who says SUV says hatchback. Audi made the choice, as for its other SUVs, to run it across the width of the car, and even make it extend over the wings, which gives it a wraparound appearance and allows it to integrate with homogeneity to the rest of the drawing. The horizontal lines of the lower part of the tailgate are not without evoking a sedan. A good point that lighten.
The new Audi Q5 follows the step of its eldest Q7 by adopting the stylistic codes that it initiated. Not a revolution (why risk it when the first generation was the leader of sales in its segment during almost all of its marketing?) But a real evolution that compensates for the lack of charisma of the old version and should to attract a wider clientele while renewing the interest of the one already won.
