Microblog: deep fried sushi

in blog •  6 years ago

I have been a bit busy lately. But that is no excuse to not post. So I will try to post a bit more frequently even if those posts are just shorts post like this.

I went to a buffet place with deep fried sushi! (I am not in Scotland) In other news, I received my mathematics doctorate. Currently, still busy with finding a job. Got through to some interview rounds but for most of them the job description turned out to be different from the actual job. So I have been looking at some new job openings again.

Lately, I have been studying up on machine learning. I made some of my own code in matlab for handwritten number recognition to understand how all the technical stuff works. Now I am having a look at python packages with ready to use machine learning since apparently this is what most companies want. Anyway it is pretty cool to play around with these things. :o)

Wow congratulations Mathowl-san!! hope you would find a great work for you soon...
Btw, how was fried sushi... it looks like Chikuwa fried/磯辺揚げ to me :P

It was okay but it tastes better without deep frying it :)

Deep fried sushi? Somehow that just feels... Wrong. But it certainly looks good haha! Also, congrats on your doctorate. May it lead to lots of interesting challenges ahead :)

Thanks.

In the Netherlands we have a history with deep-frying rice. This is a Dutch delight you can get at most of the snackbars over here https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasischijf :D

Doctorate. In Mathematics! A big deal. No need to be cool about it. Congratulations!

Thankies

Hey @mathowl, are you doing any degree in machine learning or just self study? I am also interested in this topic for future.

I just audited the courscera Stanford course because I didn't want to pay for it. But apparently if you audit it you also get access to the excercises so you can pretty much learn it yourself.

I was talking to a prof who had a phd student who studied machine learning by herself and then got a job. She used the O'reilly book on machine learning. It seems to be more usefull from a practical viewpoint.
