The Day My Life Changed

It was in 2014, already over 3 years ago, I was rear ended at a red light. Witnesses said the car was speeding and going in and out of lanes. The car hit the car behind me, pushing the car into mine, well I had my now girlfriend's car at the time.

This is already painful to write about.

I decided to take my x girlfriends car out to the store because it was better on gas, a Honda Civic. There were no warnings at all, I heard screeching tires and a crash sound and then I was hit. I got out and there was one car and an older woman sitting in it with the airbag open and a couple of witnesses on the side of the road. The driver of the car that hit us took off and ended up coming back a little while later.

Initially, I had a headache but no other pain so I went home. The next morning when I woke up my neck and back were very sore. I ended up getting diagnosed with a concussion and a sprained neck. My neck was really sore and I couldn't turn too much so I couldn't drive. The doctor I was referred too told me I couldn't drive so luckily, I had my live in girlfriend, Tammy, who took me to my Dr. appointment and physical therapy.

My insurance company was giving me a hard time with my lost wages so I hired an attorney. The insurance cut off my benefits and said I was fine to go back to work so they wouldn't even pay for any medical. My doctors were telling me that I couldn't even drive, let alone work.

Tammy was here for me for about 3 months after the accident until she broke up with me. She moved out and never helped me again. She lived here for another week after we broke up and I thought we would work things out but one day we are sitting here, watching a movie, and someone rings my apartment buzzard. Tammy fell asleep so I checked who it was. It was an older guy asking for Tammy. She had been dating someone for the past week while living here and apparently, was talking to him for awhile. It was a terrible day and I still can't believe she did that to me. Every since that day, I have had bad anxiety everyday. All the stress caught up with me and now I lost my girlfriend. She was the only one who was helping me.

I have a small family and we are not that close and I hate to say it but, they can be really selfish. More on that later.

So that day, Tammy left with that old guy and didn't come back until the next day, later in the evening. She stayed here that night and the next day, she left for good and stayed with a friend, or so she said. She still had all her stuff here and she didn't pick it all up for a couple of weeks.

This is hard to write about. It was such a bad time and I'm still not over what she did to me and how she could do that.

Tammy was selfish though and I think a big part of the reason she broke up with me was over money. She didn't like having to pay the rent but she had no problem living here for free. The guy she was seeing makes good money and has a nice house and he was older than her. They are now married.

I can't say how much all that hurt, to be left like that when I needed her more than ever. I'm over her but it still hurts that she did that to me. And honestly I still miss her because I haven't been in a relationship since.

So here I was, no support from my insurance and stranded here. My father would come over sometimes but he is a narcissist and only cares about himself. He has never really done anything for me. He did take me to my Dr. appointments two times and he acted like it was the last thing in the world that he wanted to do. He made insulting comments and was being shitty.

Medically, they said my eyes were knocked out of alignment and I started getting ringing in my ears that I still have almost constantly. My neck was very sore too.

I was able to get a second IME (independent medical exam) that my insurance sent me to. The IME's are a joke and they are payed by the insurance company to say you can go back to work. These IME doctors are paid very well doing this so they almost always side with the insurance company. Well my second IME, the doctor seemed a little more like a normal doctor and he told me he would fix the insurance issue so they would have to reinstate me. Now i just had to wait to get the report back from the insurance, which took about four months.

Meanwhile, I was stranded here so I was advised to ask my attorney to help e with transportation to see my Dr. but he wouldn't do it and he withdrew from my case too. So now I had my medical team abandon me. The lawsuit was already filled so no attorney wanted to take it over and I ran out of energy to fight all of this. The anxiety I had was beyond anxiety.

The second IME went in my favor and they had to pay all of my back pay for lost wages and pay me current lost wages for 3 years after the accident. A big relief. I was glad I had money to pay my bills but by then, everything took it's toll on me.

End of part 1.
