It is a popular belief that the comfort zone is something where you feel good. And to overcome it, supposedly you need to take a step in another direction.
However, this is incorrect. The comfort zone is predictability and stability. And rarely is it "good". When you are dissatisfied with certain aspects of life but do nothing about them because you are used to it, that's what it looks like.
The comfort zone is when you hate your job but still go there every day. And you justify it to yourself by thinking, "If not this job, then what?"
A circle of acquaintances consisting of people who demotivate you and whom you don't really like, but you do nothing about it, is also the comfort zone.
If you are a people pleaser who finds it difficult to say "no" and constantly drown in other people's requests, but don't even try to change anything, that's the comfort zone too.
And what do you think, is such a comfort zone really comfortable? It's more about stability and predictability that you cling to instead of taking a risk and facing uncertainty for the better.
To take risks or not is a decision everyone makes for themselves. However, the next time you see the phrase "comfort zone," remember that it's not about comfort, but about unpleasant yet tolerable stability.
