What is Moto3 All About?

in blog •  7 years ago

There are very few things in the world that thrill your mind and body the way riding on two wheels does. It’s an exhilarating experience that requires precision, skill and a natural instinct to compete. Your body becomes an extension of the bike, and your mind- the air it flies through, free and wild. The fascination for bikes is present in many from a very young age. But only few are able to manifest that interest into reality, from driving a toy bike to an actual racing vehicle.

Becoming a professional rider requires the greatest levels of dedication and practice, supported by an inner core that is unafraid of taking dangerous risks. For young riders just starting out in the fiercely competitive world of extreme racing, Moto3 championship is the place to be. Let’s see what it’s all about.

The biggest known extreme racing championship is called MotoGP which tests the best riders of the world on some of the fastest bikes ever built. Under the flagship of MotoGP, there are three classes:

  1.   Moto3 (250cc 4 stroke bikes)
  2.   Moto2 (600cc 4 strokes, all engines are made by Honda)
  3.   MotoGP (1000cc 4 stroke prototypes, 240+ horsepower and 200+ mph)

MotoGP is where the fastest men on the planet to ride, honed by years of experience and technical expertise in straight and slick roads. To reach that level, young riders have to bash out in the lower, lightweight classes that are essentially stepping stones for the big ride. Moto3 championship is where they get baptized into the world of two wheeler motorsports. This championship is defined by ultra-lightweight bikes and less complicated machinery. Moto3 machines are small bikes built around 250cc four stroke single cylinder engines. These engines crank up to 50 horsepower and weigh approximately 90 Kilograms without the rider. The engines have hard limiters at 13,500 RPM and are controlled by the spec ECU provided by the FIM and Dorna. There are strict rules and price caps for manufacturers to ensure that only the best machine is being developed for the championships. Moto3 is a great way for rookies to learn and evolve into the next big thing of the racing world.
