I've missed you!--and now I know why! ;) I got as far as doing my clothes and books with this method a few years ago, but have yet to do the whole house.
I tend to keep up with the "stuff" via periodic smaller purges instead, since that's easier to accomplish with small children in the mix! I've seen people online complain "Marie must not have kids" and I tended to agree when I attempted to implement her methods awhile back.
I've missed chatting with you too!!! I took a little break from being online, it was needed but I really missed everyone!
I think maybe their culture expects a lot more of kids that ours does (she certainly does). I watched a few episodes of the show and it seemed like she was quite mindful of involving kids AND the whole family. It also looked like a very trying and stressful process for the parents with kids but they were stressed and unhappy as a result of all the clutter and it seemed like the end result was worth it - beneficial to their relationships and lives. That said, not everyone needs the same level of decluttering.
She said that everyone should contribute and take care of their own things. Each family member in her house has an area that they are responsible for maintaining in addition to keeping their own things tidy. Her's is laundry. I certainly wish I would have learned this much sooner in life because I totally failed at trying to do it all myself all the time. I thought the folded laundry part would be a pain to maintain but It turns out that I really like doing it!
I just bought myself a sewing machine. I was trying to stitch the rug by hand and it was taking forever and ever - I am super excited. Mine vanished when we moved and I never replaced it. I used to make costumes simple curtains and do little repairs but I'd like to start making all kinds of things now that we have all of this fabric to work with. I could sure use some lessons from you!!
