श्राद्ध महिमा

पितृयान मार्ग से जाने वाले जीव पितृलोक से होकर चन्द्रलोक में जाते हैं। चंद्रलोक में अमृतान्न का सेवन करके निर्वाह करते हैं। यह अमृतान्न कृष्ण पक्ष में चंद्र की कलाओं के साथ क्षीण होता रहता है। अतः कृष्ण पक्ष में वंशजों को उनके लिए आहार पहुँचाना चाहिए, इसीलिए श्राद्ध एवं पिण्डदान की व्यवस्था की गयी है। शास्त्रों में आता है कि अमावस के दिन तो पितृतर्पण अवश्य करना चाहिए।

मान लो, आपके पिता की मुक्ति हो गयी हो तो उनके लिए किया गया श्राद्ध कहाँ जाएगा? जैसे, आप किसी को मनीआर्डर भेजते हो, वह व्यक्ति मकान या आफिस खाली करके चला गया हो तो वह मनीआर्डर आप ही को वापस मिलता है, वैसे ही श्राद्ध के निमित्त से किया गया दान आप ही को विशेष लाभ देगा।

जिन्होंने हमें पाला-पोसा, बड़ा किया, पढ़ाया-लिखाया, हममें भक्ति, ज्ञान एवं धर्म के संस्कारों का सिंचन किया उनका श्रद्धापूर्वक स्मरण करके उन्हें तर्पण-श्राद्ध से प्रसन्न करने के दिन ही हैं श्राद्धपक्ष। श्राद्धपक्ष आश्विन के (गुजरात-महाराष्ट्र में भाद्रपद के) कृष्ण पक्ष में की गयी श्राद्ध-विधि गया क्षेत्र में की गयी श्राद्ध-विधी के बराबर मानी जाती है। इस विधि में मृतात्मा की पूजा एवं उनकी इच्छा-तृप्ति का सिद्धान्त समाहित होता है।
प्रत्येक व्यक्ति के सिर पर देवऋण, पितृऋण एवं ऋषिऋण रहता है। श्राद्धक्रिया द्वारा पितृऋण से मुक्त हुआ जाता है। देवताओं को यज्ञ-भाग देने पर देवऋण से मुक्त हुआ जाता है। ऋषि-मुनि-संतों के विचारों को आदर्शों को अपने जीवन में उतारने से, उनका प्रचार-प्रसार करने से एवं उन्हे लक्ष्य मानकर आदरसहित आचरण करने से ऋषिऋण से मुक्त हुआ जाता है।
पुराणों में आता है कि आश्विन(गुजरात-महाराष्ट्र के मुताबिक भाद्रपद) कृष्ण पक्ष की अमावस (पितृमोक्ष अमावस) के दिन सूर्य एवं चन्द्र की युति होती है। सूर्य कन्या राशि में प्रवेश करता है। इस दिन हमारे पितर यमलोक से अपना निवास छोड़कर सूक्ष्म रूप से मृत्युलोक में अपने वंशजों के निवास स्थान में रहते हैं। अतः उस दिन उनके लिए विभिन्न श्राद्ध करने से वे तृप्त होते हैं।
