We stayed up to watch the countdown and fireworks last night / this morning and I have to say that it was pretty impressive. It lasted only for five minutes and we were back down by 1230. Goodbye 2021, Hello 2022.
For 2022, I wish we could go back to normal like we were pre-covid back in 2019. More than vaccines and medicines, it is going to take a mindset shift. With Covid 0 where I am, if you are found to have the virus, you're treated like a pariah. Sent to some quarantine concentration camp and all your details are blasted online.
We live with the risk of cars even though they are way more dangerous than covid and so it is going to take that acceptance that there will be inevitable deaths when we open up. Previously, there were deaths with the flu and similarly with SARS and MERS.
Of course, the caveat is if that the authorities know something about the virus that they aren't sharing. That of course is a wildcard because just as it was in the beginning of the epidemic, the shutdown measures seem disproportionate.
