Interestingly the sport of kiteboarding has shined a light on just how frequently I play out the unworthiness narrative in my head. “Oh I’m not strong enough, I’m in the way, I’m not good enough, I can’t, I shouldn’t, they don’t want me here, I might get hurt, or worse yet look stupid...” When I’m getting ready to go out, these tapes play in my head on repeat like an annoying jingle ya can’t seem to shake. And for the longest time I was searching for validation that they were TRUE. “Well there was that one time I got stuck in the death spiral; well I am a lot smaller than them; that look definitely meant they don’t want me here...”

But every time I tune out those stories & tune into my body, my breath, my surroundings, what’s REAL & RIGHT NOW, I’m taken out of the lie that story = fact. And I can start searching for proof that they’re untrue. “Well I’ve got a 100% success rate on going out without dying or injuring someone else; I’m actually pretty freaking strong; I guess they did invite me or at least didn’t kick me off the boat...”

So I encourage you to examine your lies. Is there some narrative you’re telling yourself about your capabilities or worthiness that is holding you back from living the life you desire? And if so, I challenge you to stop accepting the jingle as FACT & start looking for contrary evidence.
