Like a dream, yet another year is coming to a swift close but the end credits cannot roll unless the holiday season makes it grand entry.

Generally, Christmas is a joyous period as we go over the triumphs of the year and pray to God that the next year will be better. More so, as most of us make it back home to our families, it is a magical period but it is not everyone who has a family to go back to. Some people end up alone. You may fall into that category for a variety of reasons but that does not mean that you should wallow in despair.

It is possible that you have a family but you are not just traveling down to see them. You could reach out (thank God for technology) and be part of every bit of the celebration.

Let us say the first option is not on the cards or is simply not enough, you should definitely not sit around at home. Get into the spirit. Decorate your home. Send cards to friends and colleagues. Go out and mix with others.

Lastly, another option would be to volunteer. Your church may be doing something for the season or you know an NGO that has an outreach scheduled. Volunteer at any of these and enjoy the bliss of giving back in a period when love is most celebrated.

Whatever you choose to do, don’t slip into a sinkhole of loneliness. The fact that you are alone does not mean you can’t enjoy the holidays too.
