The thing with being a young, married couple is there are two mothers!
Today will be just a little blog post from me.
So we have two mothers to visit for mother's day, but don't want to rush things. This means that most years, we visit my mother in law on mother's day and later, we have a late mother's day with my mum. This works out well for her too, because she can visit her mum!
Yesterday, we traveled north to visit mum. Early morning, I first did my slug-killing round (two hands full :-( ) and then had breakfast. Then I had my second cup of tea, this time with leaves from my chocolate mint plant. I figured I should enjoy it before slugs eat it. Then, we got in the car and drove for about an hour.
Mum, ofcourse, is the best and had a delicious apple pie in the oven when we arrived! We gave her a little gift (various chocolate covered nuts/strawberries) and we chatted. Lunch was great too, with soup and a nut and mushroom kinda... thingy. Oh yes, super descriptive! Then, we headed over to the garden she shares with a friend of hers. They have strawberries in there, but the plants had spread too much and so they had to get rid of quite a few. My garden being big and new for me, still has plenty of space to be filled with delicious strawberries! So we dug up quite a few plants for us to bring home. Yay!
We visited my dad after that, seeing as we were in the neighbourhood anyway. Haven't seen much of each other since the Covid thing, so it was nice to see him and his wife again. Had a chat, petted the cat and dog and then we went back to mum's place.
This town, the place I grew up in, is becoming more touristy by the year. It's a town with a history which eventually led to it housing quite a few prisons. There's a prison museum and since it moved to a bigger place, the town has obtained many new 'attractions'. There's various food places, cute shops, a hotel, a beer brewery, cheese maker and one of the latest additions: A fancy snackbar.
(Please excuse the poor quality of this picture of the brewery, I was too lazy to zoom in by walking.)
We wanted to try the snackbar food, because everybody was quite enthousiastic about it, so mum, hubby and I ordered our food and hubby and I went to pick it up. Due to the Covid thing, we had to wait in the car and they brough the order over, how luxurious!
The food was good, but a lot, so after, we were pretty full. We then had tea and another piece of apple pie and then hubby and I and our very full stomaches drove home. Then I hopped into the garden and planted most of my new strawberry plants before it was dark and my body started aching. There's about 6 left for me to plant today. We then gathered up the courage and energy to get up from the couch and brush our teeth, after which we basically crawled to bed.
It was a nice day with the parents, but we were quite tired afterwards. Still are today. So we will have a lazy weekend to recover. Except that I have a hundred things to do in the garden, so I can't actually be lazy. Although the garden will still be there later...
Wishing you all a good weekend!

Hi ... How nice to return to this issue after a while and see a post like this, they make you see things that give meaning to life. And food is one of them ... I also love apple pie, hahaha. And I really like to prepare it even though I have not done it for a while. Happy mothers day.
