Luckily, it only happens once every 10 weeks now.
Time for some migraine talk!
It's came for me quick this time. Started yesterday. I was stupid enough not to take a painkiller right away and suffered for it. Am still suffering for it, although a painkiller did help take the edge off, so I managed to sleep a couple of hours last night. It's quite horrible right now, so I'm very glad I wrote the next part yesterday morning. Replies will have to wait a little longer, but I will get to them. I'll leave you to read what I wrote yesterday, while I go back to living in the dark today.
I've written about this before: I suffer from migraines. I've been looking for something that works for me to combat them. I think I did find something, atleast for the most part.
Ever since I've started taking extra magnesium, I've been doing way better. So much so that migraines hardly ever rear their ugly head anymore, except for when I'm on my period. I now take one magnesium pill (of a daily dosage of two) every evening after dinner and that really seems to help. I have fewer moments where I feel a migraine rising up. When I do, I try to battle it with energy drink. Bad stuff regularly, I know, but great stuff for me on days like those. Just one can, spread out over an hour or so. Helps about 50% of the time, if I'm fast enough.
Whenever I'm on my period though, I do get migraines. There's no getting around that other than eating lots of painkillers and that only works when you start early. It's to do with drops in hormones or something like that, atleast from what I've read.
But! I'm on the pill, so I figured why not make good use of that? Normally, you take a pill for three weeks and then have a week without them to simulate your period. I now take them for nine weeks before taking a week for my period, so that means I only get the guaranteed migraines every 10 weeks, instead of 4. That's much better to deal with!
I'm not happy about the extra hormones that come with this method, but I'm also not happy with many migraines, so it's a choice between two evils for me. Battling migraines can mean pretty heavy medicine either way, so I guess there aren't many good options.
This is working well for me at the moment and I hope I can keep it up for a while. Migraines really mess with the amount of rest and freedom I need to hopefully get my head better again, so I'm sticking with this for now.
I'm just not sure what to do in a few years, once my age reaches a point where the chance at complications of the pill will start to increase. Probably see my doctor!

What I can recommend is that you do not self-medicate since over time it can be harmful, it is good to always go to the doctor and ask for advice before starting a treatment.

Thanks for the advice @ssempai! I spoke to a doctor indeed, but he gave me pain killers. They help better than the regular ones, but I don't like taking pills, so I'm happy the extra magnesium seems to help.

It is good to observe oneself and rule out any ailment that our body presents, and not leave the treatment for later since the longer it is postponed, the more risk is run.
