How to setup wordpress blog and indexed on google

Now that you have your WordPress blog up and running, it is time to do some basic SEO. You have to get your website indexed on the search engines.

SEO’ing your website is one of the most important aspects of ​ getting traffic
​ . And obviously, ​ getting traffic
​ is one of the most important aspects of digital marketing.

Google has the lion’s share of the search engine marketing and almost everyone uses Google. Yahoo and Bing are pretty much non-existent. So in this course, when we talk about search engines, we are mostly talking about Google.

Google’s WebMaster Tools (or search console) is one of the most important tools provided by Google. The next most important tool is Google Analytics (which we will learn in the future lessons).

You can sign into Search Console : https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/

You can sign in with your existing Gmail / Google Account. As soon as you go inside, you have to add your website.

Enter your website URL in the text box and click on ​ Add Property.

Once you add your website, Google verifies that it is your website. They will also start showing you important information about your website. But they have to make sure that you are really the owner of the website and not someone else.

So you have to go through a verification process.

The easiest method would be to download the HTML verification file and upload it to your root folder. It should be something like: www.yourwebsite.com/verificationfile.html

The other method would be to add a header tag or meta tag for the website.

The location of adding the meta tags differs from theme to theme. You have to look for a section like ​ ‘Header Scripts’​ in your theme where you can add this.

After these steps click on Verify and your website will be verified. You will get a success message.

Now many options will be available for your website inside this tool. One of the best and most important feature is the ‘Fetch as Google’ Tool.

Enter a sub page or submit the home page. Click on Fetch. Google will visit your website. And then there will be an option called ​ ‘Submit to Index’

Once you do that you will be able to see your website on Google Search! To check if your website has got indexed on Google, just search for ​ site:yoursite.com

If the indexation is complete, it should show up
