Looking back on 2017 on Steemit!

in blog •  7 years ago

What a strange and fantastic year it has been… Or half year rather! I found Steemit in June of this year, and I started blogging almost right away. It did not take long for me to engage with the open and lovely communities that surround Steemit.

The first I found was Whaleshares. They took me in and taught me the ropes. They even supported me greatly in forming my own community, Looking For Niche, which has been growing steadily (despite my recent hiatus) since then. I would especially like to thank @officialfuzzy for helping support the community directly through his Whaletank project - and @alexpmorris for creating WhaleBoT with LFN tools as well as helping me get the hang of a bunch of different things. I would also like to thank @steempowerpics for helping with LFN things here and there and of course @lindahas for always supporting community initiatives (and coin giveaways, which she seems to love!). Outside of Whaleshares, @heart-to-heart have been one of the absolute nicest supporters of LFN and alike. I hope you are well, haven't seen you in a while!

There are thousands of lovely members, and I have talked with numerous folks on there during my time on Steemit. And there is of course a lot of Whaleshare folks I have not talked to in a while. Hopefully that will change, if I can get the hang of this time thing.

I started writing about things of interest to me. In an overall sense, I have written about psychology, ideology, comic books as well as crypto news and opinions. However, I have yet to write much about the even (to me) nerdier stuff that I enjoy. In 2018, I hope for even more nerdy niches to join Steemit to write more about comics, advanced board games, Magic: The Gathering, old school video games. Some of these topics have a few popular posts now and then but Steemit is still young, so I think these niches can grow in time with more people joining.

After some time I found PAL, which turned out to be an open and enjoyable community. While I have yet to know that many users in there - with me being randomly away for long periods - I can say that they all seem nice. Well at least @crimsonclad laughs at my horrible jokes!

Being on Steemit with open-minded folks partly inspired me to go out and talk to people about crypto. In fact, I held a lecture for a couple of semesters at the university where I study. Most students seemed to enjoy it and a professor thought it was so good that she wants to hire me - if university budget allows for it next year - to give guest lectures on blockchain basics.

Really, Steemit communities I participate in probably played a part for me this year in regards to doing things I like instead of over-thinking things; never doing anything.

So thank you for that, dear Steemian. I hope you had a great year on here, and I hope next year will be even better! Write your hearts out and have a Happy New Year!

Aww, thank you for the mention! I do love those coins and events in general. You know, word art is my craft :D

And thank you for sticking around. And happy new year! :D

you should definitely do more of those blockchain lectures, and feature our cool little crypto communities! Perhaps soon you'll have a bunch of classmates all paying each other back or tipping each other in seconds using UPVOTES, as well SBD, STEEM, BitShares, and EOS!

In fact, you might want to hook up with @matt-a and @robrigo to get some of their "Agoric Scrip" printouts to facilitate the "onboarding" process...

You'll be the cool kid on the STEEMIT college block leading the way for all your classmates!

Happy New Year to you! :D

I'll have to check out their printouts. Looks neat from the picture!
Part of one workshop was actually getting people to tryout BitShares transactions on the testnet, so on-boarding is already halfway there!

Thanks for the good year, and happy new year! :D

It certainly was a wild ride this year (and during my 6.5 months on Steemit). I am planning to rebuild my hydroponics gardens in January from the hurricane damage and resume posting to that account again soon. I will continue to promote the gardening LFN in those posts.

I hope you have a happy, healthy and prosperous 2018!

I'll look forward to hearing how the gardens project turns out! And I hope you have a great 2018 too, happy new year! :D
