Beauties of Bangladesh National Zoo || Mirpur chiriakhana || Bangladesh National Zoo Dhaka
Located in the Mirpur section of the capital city of Bangladesh, the Bangladesh National Zoo is home to more than 2,000 animals from 165 species and is a popular place to spend the day, both for local and international visitors. Established in 1974, the Bangladesh National Zoo has been developed and improved over the years, and is widely considered to be one of the best zoos in Bangladesh, receiving hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.

Visitors to the Bangladesh National Zoo will appreciate the way the animal enclosures are designed to make each occupant feel at home by mimicking the animal’s natural environment as closely as possible. Of course, the animals are safely behind bars, but the overall appearance of the zoo, with its tree-lined pathways and two large tranquil lakes that host migratory water-fowl each winter, gives one the impression of being out in the country side rather than within the boundaries of one of the busiest cities in Bangladesh.
History:
On 26 December 1950, the agricultural,cooperation and aid ministry officially declared to establish a zoo in Dhaka. Hence the zoo started that time near Dhaka high court with several spotted deer, monkey and elephant. The zoo later shifted to present Eid-gah maidan with more animals.[6] Later in 1961 a board was created to ensure proper management of the zoo. Later, after acquiring animals from internal and from foreign countries, the zoo inaugurated at its present location 23 June 1974.

Dhaka Zoo is the most favorite place to the kids. This is the largest zoo in Bangladesh. Many species of animals are available here: Monkeys, Snakes, Ziraf, Tiger, Lion, Birds, and mamy many other. Ticket price is 10 tk. and children over 2 years of age require tickets to enter.

Zoo Museum:

There is a museum inside the zoo, to visit which requires a separate ticket of 2 tk, which could be found at the museum gate.

Animal Riding:

There is arrangement to ride in Elephant and Horse inside the zoo for children. Ticket for elephant riding is 5 tk. and horse riding 3 tk.

Fishing:

Adults can catch fish on the zoo lake by hook for 1,000 tk. You have to bring your own hook.

Summer Season (1 April – 30 September): 9 AM – 6 PM
Winter Season (1 October – 31 March): 8 AM – 5 PM
Every Sunday closed for visitors
Open in every government holiday.

Animals:
The zoo is currently home to 2,150 animals from 134 species.

The zoo exhibits 58 species of mammals, including elephants, cheetahs, rhinos, zebras, waterbucks, otters, hyenas, deer, giraffes, impala, black bears, tapirs, hippos, lions, many species of monkeys, chimpanzees, baboons, and Bengal tigers.

The aviaries at the zoo house more than 1500 birds representing 91 species, including peacocks, rhea, African gray parrots, cassowary, owls, ostrich, emus, teals, finches, babblers, owls, vultures, and eagles. The two lakes at the zoo also host migratory water birds each winter.

Visitors can also see 13 species of reptiles including snakes and crocodiles, and 28 species of fish.
