Where Do You Find Calm?

Whenever I go to the beach, I always feel calm.

I think the sight of the ocean moving along with it's own chaos is comforting. Knowing that something else has crazy in it's life makes me feel less stressed.

Do you have a place the brings you calm?

When I was growing up, I didn't really have a physical location that brought about calm. I spent a lot of time either listening to music while playing on the computer or reading. My 'most' calm place was inside of a book, especially while riding the bus. I had to ride the city bus across town to and from school growing up, until I learned to drive and got a car. There were definitely times that I didn't enjoy riding the bus, mostly having to wait outside when the weather was unpleasant. I grew up in Alaska, so it could get really cold or snow a crap ton very quickly. Besides those things, riding the bus was fine.

I usually had my discman playing and a good book to read. Sometimes I had to do homework, but mostly it was reading whatever I wanted. But even without the book, I would listen to music and people watch.

Maybe riding the bus was a calm place for me, too.

I grew up in a bit of chaos, so finding those calm places were hard.

Even as an adult, reading is an escape. It's so nice to jump into another world and imagine someone else's made up problems and solutions. It was like traveling to a new place and meeting new people, good or bad.

This past winter, we went to Hawaii with my in-laws and I guess I put two of my calm places together: the beach and reading.
It's so nice to sit and read on the beach. With the sound of the waves in the background and the warmth of the sun beaming down on you, simply wonderful. Even here in Washington State, on our cold 'beaches', it could be peaceful to sit, all bundled up on the sand with a book in hand. Maybe not for as long, though.

Lastly, no matter where your calm or peaceful place is, indulge in it. I don't get very many opportunities to go to the beach, but when I do, I take advantage. But, I do always have the option to just get lost in a book at home. Sometimes I really do lose track of time and have stayed up till 2am reading a book because I JUST CAN'T STOP!

If you don't currently have a place where you feel calm, try to come up with one. It's nice to have a place that can separate you from your problems and stressors and give you a much needed break. Try to brainstorm all the things you think make you calm and then think about places that always comforted you. It could be very eye-opening.

Until next time, friends.-theRealPositiveGirl

Thanks for this @realpositivegirl. Nice piece of writing. I can identify with staying up all night stuck inside a good book, bleary eyed and determined to devour more :) Keep steemin' on!

Thanks so much! I just LOVE a good book. Something that can draw you in that much is so fantastic. Top 5 favs.

I am calm everywhere, normally, but more so at parks.

I envy that! I feel stress most of the time. I'm glad I figured out at an early age what calms me. Maybe you can share your secret of constant calm?

it looks like you experience some sort of anxiety... I've been there

The beach has always been my calm place. I never grew up near the beach, instead growing up in the mountains. Whenever I went to the beach, I would feel amazing. Hope to be moving to the coast by the end of this year. Great write up.

Thanks! Yeah, I would love to live near a beach, but I might not get much done. Haha!

I used to draw. It used to be my calm - it relaxed me.

Right now, I do not think I have an explicit calm. I do not enjoy drawing as much as I did, it just seems like a lot of work. I sometimes enjoy reading, but not enough to actually open up that book.

I watch movies, I play League of Legends (which sometimes can trigger the opposite of calm).

Generally, I feel like a calm person. I do not need to search for it, I guess. When it's worst to worst, I just go and take a walk for maybe 10 to 20 minutes. Imagine me punching trees. That should do it.

I think we all have different ways of coping with stressful times. I think walking is great and even imagining yourself punching trees is great. I can see how that could let out so frustrations.

Haha yeah! Well, I do not want to hurt anyone when I am at the top of my frustrations.

I used to do boxing, but didn't get a chance to continue that after I've moved.
