The Do-It-All camping equipment

Anyone who does a lot of camping or long distance hiking knows that every additional thing you have to carry makes the journey suck more. The obvious solution is to have one item perform multiple functions. I present the most utilitarian camping kit piece: the shelter half.

This is a shelter half model from the NVA. This style was used in both German and Soviet service as well, but this one seems like one of the best surplus shelter halves available today. You can find the similar items from all over the world, but this one is water resistance and strichtarn is a cool camo pattern.

Uses:

  • ground tarp
  • rain poncho (if it is waterproofed like the NVA model)
  • camouflage
  • button 2 together to form a 2 person tent like above
  • button 2 together for a light sleeping bag
  • tie corners together for a sack or a food back to hoist into a tree (don't want any pesky bears taking you pic-a-nic baskets right booboo?)
  • show off your inner German with your friends and get fancy with it

  • buy a Soviet one to cosplay a hobbit

Do I really need to keep showing you what to do with this? It's seriously one of the best things ever invented and they are $12.99 at Varusteleka. What the hell are you still reading for, go buy one!
