A company wants to pay me to publish guest posts on my blog - yeah right!

View this post on Hive: A company wants to pay me to publish guest posts on my blog - yeah right!

I've moved to Hive, along with most other people, following Justin Sun's takeover of Steem in the Spring of 2020. I believe hive is a lot more decentralised than Steem!

Well, getting guest postings on another blog creates backlinks and tells google that the original site is important and as such that increases in ranking....
Tell them fine, pay me in steem and no posting until you proofread

I'm skeptical of both of those offers. You're spot-on about the bad grammar. Hell, I'd write someone off as unprofessional for even clunky writing in a professional email.

As far as the nature of the scams, I'm a bit paranoid, perhaps, but there are a lot of options for them. I'd be wary of embedded code in their guest entries that might do things you don't want, such as including a link that redirects readers to a fake log-in screen to steal user names/passwords. They may also feign technical difficulties to frustrate you into clicking a malicious link to "solve" their "technical difficulty." They could request your user name/password to post the entry themselves (I'm sure they dupe some people that way).

Overall, however, the red flag for me is that the money is flowing the wrong direction. They've done the work of writing the entry and you own the platform. You should be paying them. I'm sure there are exceptions to that arrangement, but this doesn't feel like one of them.

Yes, very fair points, it doesn't really 'add up' does it!

Interesting! But yes, probably not legit.

If you were to get a response from the more professional sounding email, would you consider it? I guess you could put your own terms in: topic, final edit, out-right refusal if you don't want the publication to go out?

I'd have good look into the offer in more detail... they were offering £60 for one post, which isn't insignificant for something I wrote many years ago, and it's actually very short too.

No but I have got 15 emails saying they've filmed me wanking to porn and they know my password and I need to send them BTC.

Have they frozen your laptop?

NO..... I just keep deleting them.
