Blogging with consistency is hard! And I'm failing at it...

in blog •  7 years ago

This is not the first time that I find myself with my most recent post being more than 20 days old. That's by no means what I'm shooting for and while I try to keep contributing to the community, I'm not very happy with my efforts and success on that front so far.

It's true that some of my contributions to the steemit community have been behind the scenes with videos to help other people promote the platform, but I have fallen behind on that significantly too.

I posted about hopefully becoming active again more than 2 months ago and unfortunately, I've managed to churn out only 15 posts since then. And it's not like all of those have been golden nuggets that took a lot of time to write. And while I've made a number of promotional videos for steem and for various steem projects, I've fallen behind on my video to-do list by a lot, too. That's making me very unhappy and dissatisfied with myself. It's actually quite frustrating.

Reality is that my offline life and my work are taking up too much of my time, creativity, patience and positivity for me to manage to be as productive on the platform as I wish I were (and I know I could be).

But being busy and stressed is only part of the issue. I'm also having a hard time pressing that post button with confidence. It's a bit of a feedback loop where posting less makes me even less confident in my abilities to provide worthwhile content, so I post even less. And this doesn't really make sense. I have a few post drafts that have been laying around unfinished that I actually hate them now and don't even feel like looking at them and finishing them. And there is one clear remedy for that and it's what I'm doing now - writing and posting. It's as simple as that.

There are so many people that posting more posts than I manage per month on daily basis and who are much more lax with the post button than I am in my own head. And that's OK, not every post on here has to be researched, informative and referenced, right? It's OK for us to just blog about what's on our minds today and about the small ideas and bits of knowledge that are rattling around our heads. So I'll try to do that from now on. While I'll still try to post a few posts of supposedly better quality, I'll try to not censor myself that much so I can finally build that habit of posting on daily basis.

When you look at my profile, you'll notice that I don't really have problem writing as when I have the time to I write a lot of comments and get into a lot of comment discussions. So when I don't have to be the one to come up with the topic and the one to press the post button initially, it's not that hard for me to write and to express my mind. So I'll try to translate my commenting "nature" into my posting as well. Let's see how it goes and how I evaluate my yet another failure at consistency next year.

Anyway, thank you for bearing with me in my self-indulgent rant and please let me know what you think. What type of content do you post and how often do you you post on here? How much effort do you put into what you are posting and what type of things do you like posting about personally?

I went quiet for 3 months around NYE.
The longer it goes, the easier it is to put it off another day.
Analysis paralysis
Don't beat yourself up, mate.
Long term it's more about quality than quantity.
When the price starts pumping, people are going to start posting more frequently, and their followers are going to struggle to keep up with their feed.
They'll have to start culling, and who do they start with?
The infrequent poster who puts in a lot of effort, or the cowboy who fires rapidly from the hip without careful reflection?
Thanks again for my video

Thanks for the encouragement! That's exactly what I meant to overcome with this little post as it is really easy to put everything off. Analysis paralysis is exactly what I'm struggling with and it's not a new thing for me when dealing with things I'm not used to. So I want to get some consistency in my posting not just for the rewards, but more for myself and my balance. I think it's a nice habit and I really like the interaction with fellow steemians like yourself and others in the community.

Making the video for you was a pleasure. I hope your friends responded well to it and that it has helped create at least one new steemian. Even if it hasn't, I hope it has at least been a chink in their armor that you're going to break down eventually ;)

This is a great post and great way to invite people over to steem! It's a mini onboarding guide and I think its awesome! I need to remember to share this with people getting videos so they can be inspired to use them effectively as your post is so much more than just sharing a video. Great job on that!

I shared it on facebonk with at least 20 irl friends, and it went quite well here too.
I had two real life friends join just today.
@george-e and @dblstr

That's awesome! Let me give them a follow ;) I recently managed to convince my significant other to start posting despite the fact that she got her account in July - @naydenova

She's stunning :) Following her.
but not in a creepy way

LOL! :D Thank you!

I am mostly into my Caption contest and then sometimes small life tips. But you seem to have awesome writing skills, and write often.

Thank you for your comment, mate! The video for your contests is one of the ones that have been on my to-do list for the longest (I'm quite ashamed to say) and I do plan to finish it soon.

No worries, take your time, I know you will have many people approaching you. Feel free to participate in the current edition, at least. Its Fun.

Up to a few days ago when @Tonyr made the alphabetartchallenge, I'd posted only 13 posts in 7 months..... beat that!
Like yourself, I'm terrified to push that post button in case I'm responsible for one of those 'shit posts' everyone's talking about.

Oh, it's great to see that you are posting. I've read A and it is quite good, so I'm glad you're doing this and I'll try to keep up!

That challenge sounds like a great way to train yourself into posting consistency and I'm even tempted to give it a shot. But it does sound a bit too challenging especially keeping in mind that some of the letters are going to fall right into the holiday season...

Bah humbug holiday season be damned! When I start something I cannot help but finish it, so 26 posts in 26 days it is.
Thanks a lot for the encouragement.

I get that, but I personally expect at least a day or two totally away from a computer during that time, so that's why it sounds kind of scary. But more power to you, you should finish that and celebrate at the end :D

I can only say that I expect your new posts. I am not satisfied with my work on the steemit. Maybe I was expecting too much?
I'm trying to increase my rating with quantity, and then start with higher quality posts. I want to write about historical events in Serbia. About museums, cultural monuments, personalities that have marked Serbia.
In my experience in the previous 2 months, it seems to me that nobody would read them. It seems to me that more important photos are than words. However, I will continue to write, I have not lost faith in success.

Well, success takes time and iteration. I have read interesting posts from you about Serbia already. But I agree it's often hard for people to get eyeballs and votes on their posts, especially in the beginning. I've personally had posts that ended up earning $0.00 in the past, but it was never just about the rewards for me anyway.

The reason I'm annoyed with myself is that I'm not managing to post consistently at all and I want to start managing that mainly for my own satisfaction. Of course, monetary rewards would be more than welcome and quite stimulating, but I don't think low earnings would really discourage me. If I keep failing to be consistent, it will be because of me and not others.

I understand you, but there is a lot of this unclear on this platform!
It happens that some people set up a image several times during the day. Each time they get a few votes (mostly from the same people) and get 2 or 3 dollars. That looks like a violation of the rules.
On the other hand, someone writes a serious quality post that rarely reads!
That discourages a little, but we must continue writing!

I get that. There are multiple components to success and post quality is only one of those. Another important one is finding a way for people to actually discover your posts and building a relationship with your following. They are all pretty hard and also depend on luck too. But when we keep writing we give luck more chances to knock on our door too if not anything else.

I personally find a lot of value in commenting on other people's posts with comments that add value or a new perspective. This would allow new people to be exposed to you and hopefully some might decide to check out your posts and follow. Additionally, you might want to participate in competitions and challenges. Of course, I'm not sure I'm the one to give a lot of advice as I by no means have this figured out.

Thank you! Every advice is welcome. I did not comment much on other posts, and that may be one of my mistakes.

It might have been. You should try to be active and to interact with people and hopefully some of them would be happy to interact with you which would lead to new followers and readers. You have to be out there to give others the chance to discover you.

This is one problem we all face a times, "what to post and how to do it consistently" It even become more difficult when your aim to put great effort into each post. For most of us, work and other issues we have to attend don't to don't permit us to be consistent in posting. One remedy to this situation is to just share more about your daily experiences, it really helps and i believe people sometimes love to read more about our experiences. You just shared your experience in this post and looking at the comments, I can see people have enjoyed reading so keep it up.

Thank you for the encouragement and support! :)

nice writing
