Yet another hobby!!

Growing up I was always taught that an idle mind is the Devil's workshop so I stay busy in my "free time". I've always had an obsession with things sharp and pointy because of growing up kinda country. I was always told a man never leaves the house without at least a pocket knife and a few emergency dollars just in case. To this day I still carry a nice little Kershaw folder in my pocket. I love knives and swords ESPECIALLY those of the Japanese aesthetic. Over the last few months I've found myself watching instructional dvds, buying tools and even throw away blanks from knifemakers. I have slowly entered into the arena of knifemaking, which just like the blockchain is one rabbit hole after the other(did you know you can make your own steel!?!?! YES ive already tried it!!). I primarily focus on stock removal for the time being but will soon move into forging blades by hand. I hope to get good enough to make some of these knives as gifts and after a while maybe even selling a few just to pay for materials to keep the hobby alive. For those that are married we all know that a hobby that pays for itself generally doesn't get complained about.

I have been slowly amassing tools and materials as money permits and let me tell you, it adds up quicker than you think. A portable bandsaw here, a forge burner there, before you know it you've spent $500 and there's still stuff that you need and don't have...especially if you're like me and went purely on impulse and bought more than a couple of things that could've waited before buying a couple of things that were necessary. Anywho this was basically just an update to let yall know where a large chunk of my time has gone while the markets are doing their volatility thing(HODL!!).

I've got just about everything I need to get started now so I can stop ruining cheap wrenches and get to work on some real steel. Soon I will be posting up pics of my actual work and not Pixabay representations. Thanks for stopping by for a couple of minutes with me.

As always if you've made it this far (in this blog post or in life) you're awesome...stay that way.

Funnily enough I like sharp pointy things too! forging them yourself would be awesome.

Here probably the best knife I own.

That's a beauty!! Solingen steel is basically legendary in terms of quality! Very nice! Being a Texan I have a natural love affair with Bowies.
