THE GREECE FLEECE

in blog •  7 years ago

We weren't on the street more than one hour before a gang of thugs separated my wife and I. They swirled around us and stole her IPAD from her backpack without our knowledge at the time. We were very disappointed but are going to continue on and have a good time. We froze our accounts and reverted to using an old flip phone we has as back up. We bounced back quick. Here's a picture of the story of my life we found while at the Parthenon. Still standing, they can steal our iPad but they can't steal our spirit. 20180125_105705.jpg The next day they struck again. As we rushed and crowded ourselves onto the Metro(subway), I felt hands trying to feel me up and pickpocket us again. BUT, I caught him. His hand and mine both in the same pocket. He then tried to grab our remaining cell phone as he3 pulled his hand back. It was firmly attached to my belt. He jumped backwards off the subway train just before the doors closed. Good thing for him I'm not a violent man but I was just about ready to become one. He had jumped on the car right behind me and patted my behind. My pockets were empty but my cheeks were full. When I spun around to confront him, he literally jumped backwards off the train just before the doors closed. I was wearing a money belt with our Euros and papers, cards and such. But they really seemed to like the electronics. Anyway, on another day, I could see another attempt in process. It was very crowded and the picking was ripe as we were boarding once again. Super vigilant, I saw this fellow exit the car, mill around and then head back to jump on behind my wife. I whirled around, looked him in the eye. I shook my index finger at him and said, "No, No , No..." He immediately backed off, turned and walked away. As it turned out, statistically, 4 persons in our group of about 40 tourists were hit. We, were targeted 3 times, only once successfully. We had chosen to be adventurous and do our touring on our own, which was a more enjoyable, but did single us out. One lady had her purse snatched and a gentleman had his high value custom hat stolen right from his head. Another lost a few bucks in his money clip. We have many more wonderful tales to tell upcoming, but want anyone considering a trip to Greece, BEWARE!

Oh my goodness! So sorry you had to deal with that when you just wanted to have a nice trip! Sheesh!

Thanks! We finally were able to get to the forgiveness stage. Sure was mad for awhile, but will not let them rule my heart. We had a great time in spite of the fact. I'll have another post soon about another faith building adventure while there. Thanks again!

Boy I would have been mad too! I tend to get way too upset when things like that happen. Its like, I would NEVER even CONSIDER doing this to you, why they HECK would you do this to me?!
Good for you moving on to forgiveness and not letting it fester.
Looking forward to the next post!

Thanks, Oh, I was a raving madman for the rest of that evening. I cursed the Greeks and was ready to hop a flight back, NOW! LOL! You are right though. Here we are blowing our savings on YOUR country and your jerk is picking my wife clean. WOW! But just like the terrorists, if you let them modify your spirit, they win. C'est la vie.

Absolutely right! ♥
