Like many newbie bloggers, I used to search and read a lot about blogging. Things like how to start a blog or start a blog in 7 days. There's no problem with their post but one thing that bothers me is that most of them looks simple and easy.
Blogging may look easy on the outside but in reality, like many other things it takes a lot of hard work and perseverance to build a successful blog, especially one that really makes money. There's so many blogs out there yet only few of them are succeeding.
Why is that?
There could be a lot of reasons why people give up on their blogs especially if you start a blog without having the right mindset, resources and things to consider.
In this post, we will be tackling 4 important things you need to do before you jump on the bandwagon of blogging.
1. Start with the Right Mindset.
When I first started blogging on Wordpress some years before, I was very excited and expecting a lot of good things as what I've read on other blogs and I thought I'm gonna earn immediately or will have a lot of followers and fans.
I was wrong, it was so hard to earn and almost no one reads my post even though I know they provide lots and lots of valuable information.
That's when I got burned up and decided not to pursue the blogging atmosphere anymore. Later after blogging on Steemit for one year, I've learned that it takes consistency and dedication to build a following and focusing on building and growing your blog should come first.
2. Provide Valuable Contents Before Making Money.
Having your own blog doesn't mean that you'll make money, at least not immediately. Unlike offline businesses where it's possible to earn the moment you set up a store, blogging is not.
You have to gain readers first. Readers means traffic and no traffic means no earning. It doesn't even guarantee that you'll make money if you have traffic to your blog. There's also engagement so readers will know you better and the most important thing is improving your blog and writing skills.
3. Have A Targeted Niche.
If you just want to blog and don't care about earning, then by all means go ahead.
But if you want a profitable blog and turn it into a business, then blogging for specific niches is one of the best things to consider.
So what's a niche?
Niche simply means your topic when writing. You can do multi topic blogs if you just want to share what's on your mind but having many niches on a blog is not good if you plan to earn from it.
Imagine writing about entrepreneurship on your first post and then about love on your second post. If I was your reader, I'd get confuse because I was looking for valuable information about entrepreneurship and not about love. Your readers will get mess up.
And if you don't have enough readers, you won't have money to earn from your blog posts.
But it doesn't mean that you just have to stay in one niche, you can do several niches in one blog as long as they're related to each other.
Let's say you want a travel blog, adding food reviews in your travel blog is a great combination because travel and food comes hand in hand. The same with love niche, you can write about marriage, parenting and other topics close to your niche.
4. Expect To Invest.
Yes, blogging needs also investment. Not just time and dedication but also money. A high ranking blog has premium themes, premium plug ins all of which cost money.
Don't have money to spend right now?
That's fine but as you keep on learning and improving, you'll also earn bit by bit. When you have enough money to spend on some things to improve your blog, then do it or hire somebody to help you build your blog. There are limitations on what your blog can achieve if you're not gonna invest any amount of money on it.

Blogging is a great investment of passion and time if you do it the right way. I hope that you gain valuable information from this post.
