SLOW SUNDAY with @scrooger - Unlimited Korean BBQ

in blog •  7 years ago  (edited)

It was a busy week for me! Productive, meeting new friends and working on projects!. I did not post in a while but will be doing some more posts within the next few days. I met @oleg326756 yesterday! Shared some really cool stories and talked about crypto and Steemit. What a fun an interesting day it was! I also interviewed him, so keep an eye out for that post!

Let's get back to the topic; My Slow Sunday where I eat and do whatever I want. My cheat day so to speak. This Sunday was particularly slow. I woke up late, ate too much and then just relaxed the rest of the day. Simply because I am currently on vacation. =)

Today we visit an all you can eat Korean BBQ restaurant, let's go!

The entrance is nothing special and even the interior is quite bland, I am not here for good looking places though! I am here for the food! Put it in my belly!

The Spread!

South Korea is the country of side dishes, this restaurant did not have a shortage of side dishes at all! Below are some of the delicious extras you can add to your plate.

Test 2.png

The Meat!

I was craving meat today, so yes I could have gone the healthy route and load my plate up with salads and vegetables. Instead, I chose to go for a mountain of meat. Since it is all you can eat and the fact that meat is quite expensive, it seemed like the logical thing to do. Below are my options to choose from. It is mostly different cuts of pork.

The pork fridge. Let's have a closer look though.

20170730_175733_HDR.jpg

Since it's an all-you-can-eat restaurant and tables are turning quite quickly they have a butcher right next to all the meat, he slices and dices all the time. Look at those forearm muscles!

This is what we chose in the end, easily enough for two people. Mushrooms, Kimchi, some radish circles and a whole lot of meat!

Test 2.png

But @scrooger, all the meat is raw! What kind of a rip off is this?

It's South Korea, they have a DIY cooking style when it comes to BBQ. You prepare the food yourself. This is actually quite fun and makes for some interesting activities while chatting away and stuffing your face. =P

The gas powered hot plate we will be using to test our BBQ skills.

Meat, kimchi, garlic, sousages, and mushrooms!

Test 2.png

How do you eat it all though?

South Korea loves leaves. At first this was a bit strange for me and I did not really like the idea of eating a leaf from a tree. Is it a vegetable of fruit? Nope, it's a leaf.

20170730_181341_HDR.jpg

This leaf is from a sesame seed tree. So the order goes like this.

Leaf -> Pork slices -> Kimchi -> Onions -> Sauce -> Mushroom

Wrap it all up and take one BIG bite, the taste is sensational!

Let's do some more of these!

> Leaf -> Onions -> Mushroom -> Kimchi -> Pickled pepper -> Garlic

Ducking Delicious!

Last one:

Leaf -> Pickled Radish -> Meat -> Onions -> Sauce -> Garlic

So now that I have you drooling, let's take a break and look at this cute Korean baby watching his cartoons on Daddy's smartphone. Look at that fluffy spiky hair! His sister was not too impressed though...

Test 2.png

The Dessert! I mean... dessert... pfff... meh...

The dessert was a bit disappointing, and since it's my cheat day I craved some serious sugary calories. I had something different in mind so I skipped this.

Test 2.png

The Missed Opportunity.

Upon arrival we were given the choice between pork or pork/beef. We decided to stick to pork and save some money. They never mentioned anything about prawns! They had prawns! If I knew before we ordered and loaded our plates I would have gone for this option. It's about $6 more (our pork only option was $13) so decided to skip it until after this post pays out. =P Here are some pictures of what we could have added to our plates if we chose the more expensive option. Also, what it looks like on the hot plate.

The Walk

After our massive meal we went down to the beach in search for some dessert. Need to start burning some of the calories ASAP. =)

So many tents.

Test 2.png

The Dessert!

We ended up in one of the hundreds of cafes around the beach. I ordered a cookies and cream/caramel milkshake while my friend took the chocolate version. This was the by far one of the sweetest things I have tasted in a long while. Even though it was delicious, I realized I do not crave these kinds of sweet things as much as I used to. Made me happy. =)

And you mean slow sunday because you could barely move after all that food right 😉

Indeed becuase of all the food. =) I tend to keep my Sunday's stress free so every week I write about something I did on my Sunday. Thanks for reading and sorry for making you hungry =P

Haha no problem, I love good food ;) and you are welcome

Great post, made me hungry..lol. 😁

Thanks for reading =) It was amazing!

I hope you know how much I value its picture with the two kids. It's very important to having a quick break from all the food pictures. Please continue with more pictures! Also, will you be heading to Japan too?

I really like that picture! The baby had little round hamster cheeks, when he chews you could see his cheeks from behind. Big small, big small. Was so cute.

Won't be heading to Japan anytime soon. On my bucket list though. =)

Thanks for checking out my post =)

Also, when you reach 200SP... PM me =)

Little kids can be so adorable at times. The reason I ask about Japan is because I have our friend on a mission to locate Sailormoon while there. Thought if you were with him it would only increase the chances of locating it. Sailormoon was my childhood anime favorite show.

Why pm you when I reach 200SP?

I never really liked kids all that much. After moving to Korea and working with kids it all changed! Now I love them, I can stare at a baby for hours. hehe.

Sailormoon, is it some kind of anime? I am quite the ninja when it comes to getting something online. I can maybe help you find the episodes, unless you want hard copies. Then I can't help.

You are a good Steemit user, I tend to take care of my Steemit friends so would help you out with a project I am working on. To enter you need a minimum of 200SP... All in good time =)

I mean Korean children and people are a lot more fascinating then anyone other group of people, At least I think so.

Sailormoon is an anime that aired after Dragon ball Z. My brother woul watch his show then I would get to watch mine, good times in my childhood.

Well, I shall touch base in the next couple months when I hit 200SP. Thanks!

Couple or months? Couple of weeks! Hehe, I will check if I can find it for you. You can probably stream it from some sites. Will go have a look.

Yes Korean people are very interesting indeed. I see new and interesting things happen around me all the time even though I have been here over 2 years

I have actually found a site and I think Netflix does it too. I am shocked after soo many years that I am not the only one who is still a fan of the show.

I hope I will have that many SP in a couple of weeks. I have to keep commenting. Have you read any particularity interesting post today?

Glad you found it!

I am currently on holiday so I am quite busy with this and that. Have not got the chance to read much. Did however quickly jump to your feed and your 2 weeks of now meat and sugar was pretty interesting. Will go watch What the Health. Thanks for that. =)

awesome snaps, barbequing your own food is so much funn!! btw any plans for Canada?

Yeah it really is fun! Canada? Hmmm... No plans yet but I really want to go there. Heard the people are so friendly. =)

Heheeh...very much indeed..south korea seems beautiful too :)

OMG, so much delicious goodness! I'm salivating and wish I'd stuck in Korea just a little bit longer to experience it all! :D

That sand hill on the beach looks perfect for the interval training, by the way. Just saying. ;)

Now I'm gonna go and find myself an ice-cream! You're a bad influence, @scrooger! (only on Sundays, though. You're a good influence the rest of the week. :))

Found it! Grape-vanilla, mmmm!..

Omg yes! Give it here! Looks really great!

Hmmm... The interval training. I think I need to try it. Since my holiday started I have been a bit bad. Been enjoying too many bad things. Will get back to it though. The holiday season has got me all excited and craving sugar... Still staying away from alcohol so thats good.

Grape~vanilla? That sounds really nice. I know Japan has some really interesting snacks. Chekcout the many flavors of pringles and the sake flavored kit kat =)

Yesterday, while strolling in the park surrounding the Osaka Castle, I noticed a nice slope along the way where some people were doing interval training. So I headed to the park this morning with an intention to burn off yesterday’s calories from the ice-cream, pizza and alcohol. :)

I did some light jogging for a few minutes and then proceeded with the interval training – to much amusement of the tourists walking in the park. I managed to conquer the slope three times at my maximum running speed, before I felt that one more time would end up in a blackout. So I simply walked and jogged the rest of the route. At that very moment a light cold rain started – to my delight! It was a pure physical pleasure to have the sensation of cold drops of water hit my hot sweaty skin and cool it down. The tourists were trying to hide from the rain under the roofs and umbrellas, while I walked in the midst of it with a huge grin on my face. A lovely way to get my day started! Have big plans for exploring Osaka on foot this afternoon and evening.

That sounds amazing! I really enjoyed reading that, and I just realize why we get along so well. There are two kinds of people. For some reason, this Bob Marley quote stuck with me for many years. You are a "feel the rain" kind of person. The best kind. =)

I still need to get out and train some more, you are training even though you are on vacation! Now you are making me feel more motivated! I need to get it done! Have just been too busy and distracted with other things...

Promise as soon as MAW launches I will get back to the training.
