Carnivore 75 Hard Redux: Day 19

Nutrition & Healing

Plans change. I intended to fast all day until my roast was (hopefully) ready, but I got hungry and made an omelet instead. I used six eggs, five strips of bacon, and some Colby cheese. That was the last of my Colby cheese, which is actually regular cheese, made from pasteurized milk.

After that, I've got some cheddar made from unpasteurized milk to go through, and then hopefully it'll be time for the second and dairy-free half of this particular round of the Carnivore 75 Hard challenge.

Trying to make a roast in the slow cooker... again.

I had bad luck the last time I tried making a roast in the slow cooker. It started off okay, but then I stopped paying attention, and by the time I checked, it was overdone. The liquid had not only dried up but turned black and crispy. This time around, I'm using our smaller slow cooker and keeping the temperature on low the entire time. As of my last check-in, the roast was roughly half-submerged in cooking liquid, which is what I wanted. I didn't add any extra liquid, but I did add a little bit of butter to the slow cooker to add some fat.

When I was browning the roast in a skillet, I took this photo. It reminds me of Devil's Tower as featuring in the film Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Made out of meat instead of clay or mashed potatoes in this instance.

Better, but not awesome

This roast turned out edible, but not awesome. It was still a little on the dry side, but luckily, there was a lot of cooking liquid left in the slow cooker. Instead of turning it into dog food like I did with the last roast, I decided to carve it up and then put the slices back in the cooking liquid and left it on the warm setting for a little while. After that, it was edible, even if it wasn't the tastiest thing I've ever had.

Mindset

Today, mostly while I was shoveling snow from my property, I listened to an episode of the Low Carb MD podcast featuring an interview with Dr. Joan Ifland. The subject of this episode was addiction. Mostly, they talked about food addiction, but the episode also touched on how low carb and carnivore diets seem to be helpful in kicking other addictions as well.

Movement

I made it to 10,000+ steps today without going on a walk. As usual, you can read about it on my daily Actifit post by clicking on the image below. I actually made the post a little earlier than I should have because I got in more steps afterward, but whatever... as long as I made it to my goal, that's all that really matters.

If the Whoop activity tracker thing that I'll be getting next week or so does a better job of tracking my sleep than my current Withings activity tracker does, I may include that information in some of my future blog posts.
