Renovations from the Uncarpenter

Today my friend and I begin the finishing renovations of my rental suite in my home in White Rock, British Columbia. For me, a financial advisor, the job of renovating a rental suite seems so daunting as many of the jobs ie. drywall, painting, plumbing, and electrical are so foreign to me that I haven't the faintest clue where to start. I know with painting that the preparation is more important than applying the paint, but what this preparation entails is not something I have ever discovered.

I am in good company though as my friend K. renovates for a living and paints and drywalls during the day, he is providing the expertise. He will likely do most if not all the work and I will doing the supply runs to Home Depot with a list of supplies that we (he) needs. This renovation has been in progress for over a year and a half as it initially began as a renovation to sound-proof the rental suite and make the ceiling higher to provide more head room. As with many renovations it grew to encompass other rooms, flooring, and the removal of walls (some of which I wish still remained now). I aim to finish the suite in the next two weeks which K. the expert feels is achievable and which even I can see happening.

Well wish us luck on renovating my rental suite and then finding a good tenant to sign a 1-year lease. In White Rock right now demand is very high so we shouldn't have difficulty finding the tenant. I think finishing up the suite in two weeks is going to be the biggest challenge.
