One thing I have been doing up until my extended break from work for the holidays was taking pictures as I would go through my day. Mostly random things; people, cars, funny signs and such, anything that I might have the most remote interest in writing and sharing would be subject for a couple photos just in case I needed them that night.
This past week I didn’t take one photograph, and the couple that I thought about taking I determined that it wasn’t worth the effort to walk back to my truck and get my phone so I could snap those shots. I had gotten into the habit of taking photos pretty quickly and fell out of it just about as quickly as I got into it.
I can tell you that my daily dose columns that included pictures with the story did seem to earn more money here on steemit than my posts without pictures. People say a picture is worth a thousand words, but how much does that equate to in SBD? I don’t have an exact way to determine that, anyone care to offer a guess?
Back when I really didn’t care, my old man selfish days, I figured my words were good enough to post because I really wasn’t writing for the people reading my stuff. Being the changed man that I am now, and you readers being a top priority, I need to make sure I deliver the best that I can each day.
Most of the people at Sola don’t know jack crap about writing something intelligent, and if something were to be written intelligently over there, I don’t know that half the users could even read it. Now I will tell you, in all honesty, I don’t believe Sola was intended for articles and stories with meaning and substance like steemit.com was intended. To me it is more of a twitter or snap chat from what I’ve been told, I have never seen or used those two social media forms I just mentioned, I am going from hear say on that.
So far over there I have posted a six meaningless posts and six pictures and have gotten $50 Sol, I think it is suppose to devalue today by .447 or something like that because their initial coin offering didn’t sell all they had and they had to burn some. I don’t care though, so I end up with a little over $20 Sol. I didn’t have to work at it, and I got to talk with God over there. Yes, God has account and is always passing judgment on people’s posts and pictures.
I will tell you that I actually enjoy seeing the pictures other people post, there are a bunch of beautiful places that are on this earth that I never knew existed. I will also tell you that Texas has beautiful women, but if something ever happens and I end up single again, I’m packing my bags for Russia. Just about every picture being posted that has a Russian origin is a smoking hot young chick that is scantily clad at best. Now I know why Vlad Putin wants to keep his country kind of isolated from the world; he doesn’t want to share their natural resources. Before you tell me how cold it is over there, hold your breath, if those babe’s can’t keep me warm, I am already dead, I’ll take my chances, heaven forbid I end up single again.

I have read lately a post that somebody cared to share with me so I would better understand the ropes around here. I had an idea already about the value of a good picture in an article from my previous job as a journalist but he actually made a good point regarding this subject when it comes to the steemit community. This is what I was sent regarding pictures in posts or better said lack of them “. Post without pictures - If you post without any pictures, your post will receive no thumbnail in the New/Hot/Trending lists. This is effectively post suicide. Terribly formatted pictures, pictures that do not appear properly, or pictures that produce an awful thumbnail should be immediately edited and replaced.” I would add to that the fact that although your dog might be cute and all it does not reflect in any way the content of the post. If you will get that extra $ 3 or 4 it is only because you intended it to be satirical and the idea seemed to catch on with your followers. In any case for that matter I agree with the idea of posting with pictures or whatever images because it helps the reader stay connected to whatever you try to present. Presentation is the key to selling your product. But I am sure you are aware of that. In any case I am dealing with the same issues as the image obssesed society of today has not made an impact on me. Nevertheless I am looking forward to seeing more pictures in your blog and working on improving mine as well.

I didn't know about the lack of a thumbnail picture would keep a post from making the hot or trending category, I guess I can't use that excuse since all my stuff has at least a thumbnail shot. It must be the content that is keeping me off those lists. I always thought those list were solely on the earnings those posts were generating.
Thanks for noticing that our dog is cute, she is really smart also but the pictures don't show that aspect of her. I think you are right about the image obsessed society, we may very well be headed to a period similar to the cave man days, but instead of drawing on cave walls we just post pictures online. I am old school in my thinking as I try to convey my thoughts with words for the most part. One problem I do run into when I use photos is determining how many is enough and how many are to much. Then I also struggle with sizing of the photos, how big is to big or is the photo to small for the people to see the message conveyed in the photo.
I will continue to work on improving my use of photos, I just need to get back in the habit of taking the photos in the first place. I just won't use pictures that I haven't taken myself and I'm the only one who can make sure I have enough to chose from.

I do not think that the content of your blogs should be a problem it is always different stuff and more then less very interesting..so that should not be a problem to keep you off those lists..& regarding your problem about how many is enough or too much I cannot give you a straight answer but I use this approach. The important main paragraphs need a image also the funny ones need an image ..since your introduction always has a image I am not gonna say that (I usually choose a image that explains in a way the content of the story). The ending conclusion of the blog should have a image. Well this might not be accurate to some people but it makes sense to me. It helps the reader visually to stay with you till the end.

I stick with the same thumbnail because it serves more or less as my brand mark. Also since a lot of my posts don't have pictures it is better than a completely text only post.
I think you might be right about the images and where needed. I'll continue to experiment and see how the chips fall.

I thought about doing the same when I started but I changed my mind , it is a good strategy to have a brand mark , but I could not commit to just one image..can’t wait to see how it works out with the images ..have fun!

I tried SOLA and got in a whole debate about original content and copyright which left a bad feeling with me for the site
Also I found it doesn’t have the sense of community that I have found on here

Yes, I noticed right off that copyright means nothing over there for sure. Original content is also a concept that they know nothing about either for the most part. I made it a point though for myself not to get into any debates over those things though. I look at it as I am entering their space and if that is their accepted behaviors it is not my place to try and change them.
There are some "communities" that seem to be forming but they are few and far between, the homestead folks seem to be leading in that regard over there.
Yes, it may not be for everyone, but I really do like seeing pictures from other parts of the world and the site is loaded with those, plus I keep my mouse over the "skip" button so I can zip right through them pretty quickly.

Id have to agree with the pictures thing....not sure why...just one of these new modern aversions to reading maybe...we are so trained toward visual now. and i agree with @tattoodjay about the lack of community on Sola. maybe it will come... i do like aspects and agree with the ease of another place to put some of these extra photos i take on to sola.

I think the pictures should compliment the text here on steemit, not be used to tell the story, just my opinion though. I have seen plenty of posts that in my book over use the photos and I don't want to fall into that trap myself. The lack of community over at Sola I think has to do with it being very new, I do notice some folks like the homestead crowd that seem to be circling their wagons and I'm sure others will follow. Personally, I just enjoy flipping through the photos, I don't even hardly read the memes.
It is easy to post photos and if they are willing to throw me a couple nickles for photos I have sitting in a folder on my computer I'll take them.

I thought it was worth sharing also @penston, that was going to be my next daily dose, thanks a lot. Just fooling, glad you popped that in there. I learned it from a post that @arbitrarykitten did a while back and it really does enhance the look and feel when you can offset the photos. I had done a few posts with pictures prior to learning that trick and having them just lined up down the middle of the page didn't do much for me or the look of the post. They were improtant to the post but would have looked a lot better if I could have offset them.
Now , I need to start looking for something to write for Tuesday.

Thank you, as a Texan it is my duty to keep things big, posts included. If you find it to large, just try reading the first and last paragraphs, everything in the middle is mostly bull shit anyway.
Thanks for the compliment on the dog, she really is a nicely built boxer, a little stubborn at times but the word is that they keep that stubborn streak for a couple years and then mellow out, they kind of like to be a puppy longer than most breeds. Real good watch dog, she doesn't miss a thing.

Your blog is PLENTY entertaining, even without photos, but I'd opt for the occsional photo if given a choice. The photos in your "furniture refinishing" post added quite a bit to the story, and the shot of Shortie with her bear is priceless! Also, the posts of your travels and BBQ exploits are greatly enhanced by the photos, no doubt!
I've never used SnapChat and never care to. But Twitter is a different story. It was a HUGE help to me all those years while caregiving for my elderly parents — instead of texting/calling friends and relatives every time there was a major event, one simple "tweet" on Twitter notified most family & friends, instantly and quickly (e.g.: "Dad fell again. In ER now getting x-rays.").

Yes, some pictures are good for sure and add value too the story, not necessarily to the earnings, the post and photos you mentioned are evidence of that on the furniture and the bear. I think the BBQ photos added in both regards.
If Keone earns some SBD I will convert her earnings to dog treats and make sure she gets them. I have control of the account at this point, but as smart as she is, she may have it later.
