Well there may finally be some peace in the house this week. The last month things have been a little testy so to speak. During the course of a normal month of the year I am usually on the road at least three nights of a week for 2 to 3 weeks of the month. So when December rolls around I can end up being home for 3 to 5 weeks straight without being away one night, and the family is not use to me being there that much.
This winter for the holidays I was home 31 nights straight, the kids and the wife were plenty ready for me to head out on the road Monday. They claim that I have a tendency to disrupt things; I think they are full of it to tell you the truth. I may have a few little quirks that may get under their skin a little but by no means am I a disruption. They act like it is the end of the world because I get up between 5:45 and 6:15, just because they like to sleep until 7:30 or 8:00. It’s not my fault that the smell of coffee, bacon & eggs has an effect on them even when they are sleeping. They should be glad I didn’t wake them and tell them to fix me breakfast, which I have been known to do.
My sleeping even bothers them, especially if I fall asleep on the couch. Yes, I might snore a little, but they describe the sound as a “freight train rumbling”, I never hear it so they must be exaggerating. The thing that is probably least liked about these extended periods of my time home is that I am constantly on them about the lights. I swear I am the only one who knows you can turn off a light by flipping the switch down. They all seem to know how to turn them on, but I will be damned if one of them knows how to turn a light off. I think we spend as much on light bulbs in a year as we do electricity, and the light bills aren’t cheap by any means.
So as you might guess, this daily dose is being brought to you from my hotel room in Luling, Texas. I would take this opportunity normally to tell you all the great things about this little Texas town, but there really aren’t any that I can think of right off hand. Well, I take that back, the town of Luling is famous for one thing, and that is Buc- ee’s , a gas station. This town is where Buc-ee’s got their start, and the Buc-ee’s brand has grown to 30 locations in south Texas now. What makes this gas station so popular is that it is huge in both number of gas pumps and toilets.
So, how many of you know of Nina Burleigh? No one here knows of her? Don’t feel alone, I didn’t know who she was either until about 30 minutes ago. The only reason I know of her now is because of a Google search I did this evening that was prompted by listening to the “rational radio show” this afternoon hosted by Dale Dudley on KLBJ 590AM in Austin Texas.
Nina Burleigh is a writer for Newsweek.com and on Monday afternoon she wrote an article about President Trump in which she ripped the Commander in Chief for his use of the English language. According to a study conducted by some research outfit that analyzes speech it turns out that President Trump speaks on a fourth grade level. According to this research, this is the lowest level of speech from a president going back 15 presidents.
Evidently over the weekend President Trump tweeted something to the effect that he was a “genius” and the research group couldn’t wait to prove him wrong. Factbase is the research group; they show President Trump as communicating on a 4.6 grade level when speaking. The highest of the 15 presidents that they have done analysis on was President Hoover at 11.3 grade level; he was president from 1929 to 1933.
President Clinton was at a 9.3 grade level, I find that hard to believe personally, if you remember he had questions about what the definition of “is “ is, when he was under questioning about something to do with sex and a White House intern. Most ninth graders know the definition of is.
I am not a fan of President Trump, the fact is I’m not a fan of our political system because I know what it was designed for, this is a prime example of that design, and it is meant to be a distraction. I will say this, about President Trump; he is speaking to level of the people. The people who run this country have made it their mission to dumb down the masses of people here in the USA. Not by coincidence this started about the time President Hoover was in office, he spoke to the people back then at an 11.3 grade level which was probably where the masses were on a grade level. It should be no surprise to people that President Trump would have to speak at a fourth grade level because the efforts to dumb down the people of the USA have been very successful.
It is a shame that writers like Nina Burleigh and others who are so quick to rip the President aren’t intelligent enough to look at the whole picture, they look at one tree and the whole forest is there for examination. President Trump gets it, which is why he is successful with the public; he speaks to the public on their level. Writers like Nina and her ilk probably will never understand this; they are to intent on trying to take the President down. The FactBase analysis is more than likely correct, the reason for the level is not to be blamed on President Trump, he is just playing the cards he has been dealt.
Just my take on the situation, what is yours?
Until next time,
@sultnpapper
I tend to avoid making any political commentary so I won’t say anymore than I don’t disagree with you on your take today

Good enough, I won't press you to comment on political stuff. I know that I snore, but my crew always exaggerates about things when they happen and not about to help prove them right on this one. They all have recording devices and if they won't provide me a recording to make their case I'm not about too.

I didn't say I cooked them breakfast, I cooked my breakfast. Early bird gets the worm with me, otherwise it is up to them to catch their own. I'm not one that will make something and let it set around, if they get up and the skillet is still hot I'll make it, once the grease gets cold I'm done.

He speaks to the lowest common denominator which says a lot about the level of education that the folks in the US have. Sorry to break the news to you. And that is as far as I will comment on the political stuff.
I think we all snore once we reach a certain age. Tell the kids they are going to snore just like it when they get older and see how much laughing they do...

Yes, I think I pointed out that the people here have been dumb-down to the level he speaks at, and it is by plan not by accident that the people are at that level, so your not breaking any news to me. But I do appreciate your comment and maybe it will help reinforce what I said in the post to others who read the comments.
I'll try that with the kids the next time the mention my snoring, give them something to think about for their future as they get older.
Thanks again for stopping in, I enjoy engaging with you.

Well I might just be, but I am not willing to accept it as that, it might be that they have forgotten who pays the bills can disrupt what he wants too. Yea, I pretty sure that is the correct answer. You almost had me believing you for a minute on this one....hehe.

I think as long as they don’t call you grumpypapper and/or snoring sultn, you’re safe!
Trump is smarter than many bashers, and also critics, notice. He plays them admirably. Not that I admire him, but he surely knows how to fool many a supposedly smart person. Meanwhile the true destroyers: the Koch Brothers, Pence, and Tillerson, are signing deals left and right. Deals much more damaging than the toys, pram, and tantrum throwing of Trump. Investments in plastic plants along the south east coast, anybody?
Trump, he is merely, literally, the Jester on Duty and he loves that role.

Well said , he is the Jester on Duty, the intellectuals haven't a clue on what he is doing and who he is doing it for.
