Random thoughts
The sounds of my childhood fill the air
The vibrations soothing like a rocking chair
Daily, nightly on a schedule
Going here and going there
The vibrations of the wheels on the track
Reminds me of my childhood
Laying in bed, rocked to sleep by the sounds of the trains traveling through the night.
For some that might be annoying
But for me it reminds me of childhood.
Not so close that it rocks your house
But close enough you can feel that vibration
I grew up living about a block away from the train tracks
Our new home is about a block away from the train tracks.
A random photo I took to go with my random thoughts
I been sleeping better since we have been in our new home.
The vibrations of the trains have rocked me to sleep.
It is comforting, I had no clue I missed that sound.
The sound of my childhood, when innocence was still abound.
When the stresses of life didn't keep you up at night.
And the best thing is, there are no dogs barking all night long.
Even though we have neighbors with dogs. They like us, have their dogs indoors at night
So the only noise I hear is an occasional car and the scheduled freight trains.
They come around the same time every day on schedule.
Rocking me to sleep at night.
I think my brain is going to like the extra sleep I am going to get.

What a beautiful description of your new life! As you know, a track ran along the east border of our property. It wasn't a busy track with a regular schedule, but trains would run down to Emporia on it to get grain from the elevator there, and I thought they were pretty cozy and romantic. They would generally back down there, and the sound would be a sort of steady purring sound. On the return trip, one or more engines would be pulling the train and would whistle at the various crossings. Often, if it would take awhile to fill the cars, the engines would travel back to Anderson and would travel much faster. Then, in an anything from a few hours to a day or so, the engines would return to hook onto the train and pull it back to the rail yard that was just west of the Main Street tunnel.
There's so much that I can write about those trains as well as the trains and tracks that once were and/or still are a part of Anderson/Madison County.

What a beautiful, expressive poem, @tecnosgirl. I always hate poems that try to hard - you know, the ones who really work to get rhyming words and sound made up....But I love this. It's so soothing (like the trains, perhaps) and quiet.
