Motivation…
Since we are born we are shaped like clay! We are formatted by everything that happens to us!
Everything that happens to us, big or small, shape us into the people we are today! Our hopes, dreams, motivation have been with us for many years. Sometimes it’s hard to pinpoint exactly the time when something became our dream! When something became our motivation… it is hard, but sometimes it’s also easy!
Motivation is something that we need, No…THAT WE MUST HAVE! Nowadays it’s hard to get that motivation, mainly because there aren’t that many heroes. People just stick to their own lives, not caring about anyone else, getting their dreams crushed by the way our society is structured, getting their hopes fade away each minute they live. It’s hard to keep their heads held high, it’s hard to keep fighting when the whole world is shaped and structured to demolish them! It’s hard to keep fighting when the whole world tries to make us insignificant!
But therefore, we must get motivation from all sources possible! Don’t let the world win, you owe it to yourself to be better! Your parents and ancestors fought to give you your life, wasting it away is bringing them shame! Are you ready to bring shame to your ancestors? It doesn’t matter if you are a Christian, Buddhist, Muslim, Atheist, Agnostic, it doesn’t matter whatever religion you are from. If you bring shame to your ancestors you are an awful human being.
Your ancestors fought hard, they suffered injuries, they suffered diseases that you can’t even begin to fathom the pain they were in, they lost limbs in wars, they suffered hunger on a level that you can’t understand! All of this so you could be alive, remember that! Life is easy nowadays… We can do whatever crap we want that science can keep us alive, we can eat Cheeseburgers and candies all day long until we develop high cholesterol and diabetes. When we develop those disease we will just go to the doctor and take some pills to lower our cholesterol and insulin to lower our blood glucose levels… Life wasn’t this easy in the past, our ancestors fought hard to make sure we would be alive! You owe it to them to never surrender!
But where can we get motivation in this world we now live?
Role models!
Finding role models nowadays is hard… yes, we can have simple role models like a doctor that works and works, but that is just a normal person, to be honest, we need someone better, we need someone more inspiring! Someone that goes against the whole world and stands proudly getting hit again and again, even when he gets knocked down by the punches he comes right back up, someone that tries to make the whole world a better place, someone that blinds you with their pure awesomeness! If you don’t find anyone like this, it’s because you haven’t searched enough!
My role models are people like Elon Musk or Stephen Hawking!
I could be here all day long speaking about Elon Musk… I still need to read his biography book, but what makes him an inspiring person is what he is doing.
He started a revolution! Tesla, SpaceX, SolarCity, all of his companies are meant to change the world! He started them knowing fully well that he would get attacked by the big corporation! He knew this because he had seen it! He wasn’t the first to try to make electric cars a viable option, many tried before him, but they all failed because they got squashed by the big corporation! Big corporation that spread lies and misinformation about technologies, big corporation that could just buy new startups and dismantle them… But they couldn’t do this with Elon Musk! He already had money. He could just fight fire with fire, or in this case money with money! He has been under attack since the start. Attacks consisting of misinformation and lies, attacking is failures and shadowing his successes! This is a guy that deserves to be my role model! He took all the hits and keeps going trying to change the world!
Stephen Hawking! Do I really need to say that much about this man? We all know how much he suffered during his life. All the heartbreak he got because of a disease that he wasn’t to blame… But nothing stopped him, he kept going, even in a wheelchair, when the only thing bringing his ideas into the world was a machine! He didn’t stop! One of the movies I watch for inspiration is The Theory of Everything, his biography, I would advise anyone that hasn’t watched it, TO GO WATCH IT!
But like I said at the start of this post we are shaped and formatted since we are young! I don’t think my young mind cared much about Stephen Hawking or Elon Musk… When I was young I had a different role model, someone that has been with me my whole life, that inspired me to start going to the gym, someone that takes all the punches and gets totally destroyed! But even then, when all hope is lost, he surpasses himself and evolves! He goes Super Saiyan!
YES! I’m speaking about Goku from Dragon Ball!
Goku has been a source of inspiration since I was young! It’s hard to fathom for some people why an Anime Character can be a source of motivation but imagine this: A 8-year-old bullied mind, that goes home every day almost, and sometimes actually, crying, his friends instead of helping him just stand there watching him get bullied. He arrives home and the only thing on the TV is Dragon Ball, where a man gets smashed by some enemies and just when he is about to lose he surpasses himself and goes Super Saiyan… Of course, this young person will see Goku has a role model! And yes, I’m speaking about myself over here!
I know he is not a real person! I’m not crazy! But his “ever-evolving” always trying to defend his friend's attitude has been injected into me since I was young. It has shaped me into never surrendering, into never giving up even when the whole world is against me! Into protecting my friends at all costs! That’s why I never give up!

@tuetonium - appreciated your post on having role models & not giving up. It is easy to get down after failures or downfalls- the point is to get back up. As Rocky Balboa famously said (he was based on a real person by the way) "it's not how hard you can hit, it's how had you get hit and keep moving forward" From the Movie Rocky Balboa. This inspires me to never give up.

I haven't watched rocky... i've been postponing it for YEARS!! Ok, thats it, after finishing the list of comments i have for the day i will watch it... or maybe watch lincoln since it's been in my list too... damn, i have way to many movies to see and not enough time!
That quote is awesome BTW!
From what i've read and remember Silvester Stallone was the one who wrote the screenplay after watching a boxing fight, it was inspired by a real-life boxer. Silvester was actually homeless when he wrote the screenplay, he even had to sell his dog to get money, after a couple of years he went back and bought his dog again!!

All people have their own role model including you. This case you take a fiction role model like Goku. What parts of the Goku affecting you?

@teutonium Great topic. I am happy to hear about Elon Musk, and what he is doing, I have heard about him being the real life Iron Man, but did not read much into him.
As to your question, I can think of the character Forrest Gump (Tom Hanks), from the Movie Forrest Gump. Simply because even though he is considered an idiot, he displays many qualities, like not judging those who judge him since childhood, loving his sweetheart unconditionally, even when she left him several times during the course of his life - This shows what true love is. All he ever thought about was Jenny. He was a man of his word, and even though Bubba died, the partnership he agreed on, he gives the share to his deceased friend's family.
Forrest Gump is an example of a beautiful human being. Such a beautiful character, I wish there be many Forrest Gump's in this world.
Cheers!
P.S. If you haven't watched the movie, enjoy it. And I will be sure to check out The Theory of Everything.

I have watched Forrest Gump and yes he is a truly good human being! Unfortunantly i think Jenny didn't deserve him, that part of the story actually triggered me... mainly because i saw myself in him, or at least i saw my young self in him, sometimes we need to "get over" someone and seek new relations, being stuck on the same girl/boy is something that no one should do imo, if they are blind enough not see "the good thing" they have in front of them it's their loss. Regardless of that it's one of the best movies i've seen tbh, i always enjoy a good tom hanks movie!! I think he is one of the best actors Hollywood has!
Going to rewatch that movie when i have time... i have a really big list of movies to watch tbh :) just finished today La casa de papel from netflix, really great show!! Still have in my to watch list Lincoln, Mr.Robot, and some others....

That's true, practically he could simply move on to someone who was right for him. It all played out well in the script though. But yes, it isn't certainly an ideal situation to be in. Cheers!

I grew up in a house with my great grand parents, and grand parents (it was a big house) they were my role models. In this world today, it's very hard to find good role models, as fast as they become famous, there is someone or something to make them infamous. I admire people who make the world laugh, I don't think there is anything better. Of course people of science who are making our world better are great role models as well, Stephen Hawkings was one of those, he was genious! It was a sad day when he passed.
Motivation is something I think we are born with, and it's up to the indidvidual to use it as it should be. I like to think I'm self motivated, some days are better than others! :)

I'll speak about that in another post, friends and family can also be role models too!!! Friends, family, scientists, having a group of friends, competition! I love competition! I always get more motivated when i compete against someone!
I know what you mean when you say some days are better than others... i sometimes don't have any motivation to move my sorry ass, procrastination is soo good! Every time i start to procrastinate too much i hop in the shower and turn the water to cold, it works so well! I get enraged that way!

SonGoku & Dragonball have inspired every child of the 90s! There was and still is nothing cooler than Dragonball and I still watch it, even though Dragonball Super can't compete with Dragonball Z.
Everyone should have such an idol but also a clear goal before eyes, what he would like to become or do.

DragonBall super can't compete with DragonBall Z of that i agree!! Still, Ultra Instinct Goku is pretty cool! Let's see what they are going to do with all the character, i would love to see goku going against the grand priest! He is one of the strongest beings in the universe! Imagine how he fights!!
They haven't announced this was the definite end of DBS, people have speculated that it's just a hiatus so that toei animation can focus on the movie, Toei animation said this was going to be the biggest Dragonball movie ever, they will have to work hard if they want to surpass the last 2 movies (Battle of God and Ressurection of F)

My role models are people like J K Rowling and people who have made things happen for themselves, rather than people who have been handed it on a plate.
I think there is a journey that you have to go through to be able able to handle fame, wealth and or whatever your goal is. If it just materialised, would we really know how to appreciate it? And I am going off topic...

People like Justin Bieber and the other disney channel starts that got a lot of fame out of nowhere don't have any appreciation for what they have, so, i understand exactly what you mean.
J K Rowling spent many years in Portugal (my country), some of the things on harry potter are actually based on my country's stuff! She struggled a lot in the beggining, i've read her history, she is indeed a very inspiring person!
It's easy for a person that was born rich to stay rich... while people that are born poor need to struggle a lot to actually get anything out of this life...
