Klintholm

Klintholm is a small harbour on the southern coast of Denmark, another harbour that can be visited on the Copenhagen-Kiel route without doing any significant detour. We did a small stop here just to stretch the legs and do some food shopping. Unfortunately we were not able to get the kids out of the boat this time. Here is the shop.

There are nice beaches in the area.

By the way, the bike in the photo above is a Brompton. My wife found it occasionally in a bike shop in the UK ten years ago and said ... "I want that one!". 700 GBP. I thought it was insane ... for one thing, buying a bike abroad while being on a vacation trip by airplane and with limited luggage capacity, it didn't make sense ... and the bike was ludicrously expensive. In hindsight, it was a very good purchase. Just the fact that she still uses it daily ten years after it was bought tells it was worth the money. The bike is easily foldable, and when folded correctly it stays together as a "package" and can be handled as such. It's reasonably light-weight (my wife can carry it). It has small wheels making it possible to roll it while it's folded. Later we moved to Oslo and bought this sail boat ... while living in Oslo it's vey nice to be able to combine public transport with a bike, without having to pay for the bike - and this bike we can easily take in and out of the boat, and we have the bike in the cockpit tent while sailing. The other bikes are really heavy to get in and out, so we only do that if we're going to bike a lot. I'm digressing ... anyway, I went by roller skates while she was biking. The road below was horrible by roller skates.

There are some points of interesst and trails nearby, the place has an interesting geological history - but we didn't really take the time to stop and walk around.

By the harbour there were facilities for doing dishwashes - and it also said "drinking water" - so I drunk some - but it does look a bit yucky around the tap indeed. Where does all those insects come from, and why did they die here?

I also drunk one of those bottles. It's an interesting shop concept, found many places in Denmark - it certainly won't work out everywhere. Put 20 DKK into the jar, take 2 DKK in change back, plus a bottle of lemonade. On many stands there is also signs about Mobilepay®, which has become the Danish de-facto standard for small payments. In Norway we have Vipps®. I find it disgusting, those solutions lack everything I like with blockchain-based payment solutions. It's owned by a single company entity, said company has no obligations, they can decide whom to serve and whom not to serve, system only works on selected platforms (and the security depends on the end-user not having root access to their own device), all tracked by a single entity, not easily available for foreigners, etc. But I digress again ...

At last ... this photo I took on the way into the harbour. Those are horrible Danish inventions ... fishing nets going all the way from the bottom of the sea to the top of the sea, all the way from the shore and hundreds of meters out. It's marked by unlit buoys and a jungle of sticks in the end. If sailing and not paying attention, or i.e. sailing in the night time, it's easy to get caught in the fishing nets. Knock on wood, it hasn't happened to us ... so far.

Here is the same thing seen from the land side.

I liked the bike buying story in abroad, good to hear that it is still in use hence its useful even after ten years! So it was a wise decision to buy one. :)
