there is no such thing as a "free lunch"
Even when you are a millionaire, there is a price to pay. Even when it looks like you are getting away with it...
I found this quite a funny story and I would like (ab)use it as a talking point about risk, money and lifestyle. The short of it is pretty clear: this guy with a million dollar income was stealing sandwiches at work. The latter makes it funny: he did not take them from a mom and pop shop, but from wealthy colleagues or a multi billion dollar company. So that is funny: no real significant harm done.
but why?!
I think the guy was bored. Bored with his office, bored with his work, maybe bored with life itself. For a person that probably handles billions of dollars in transactions, I think stealing some food is pretty innocent: it would be worse if he used other peoples money to gamble. Actually, there are million things that are worse that he did not do!
We all struggle with boring things in our lives and the Mass Consumption Cartel ā¢ always tells us the solution is to consume more. That is precisely what Mr Shah did. I bet those stolen sandwiches tasted better than his thousand dollar meals! Or even better: what if he gave the sandwiches away ( didn't happen, but I can pretend š¤£)
the need for unpredictability
We all need a bit of chaos in our lives and it safer to steal sandwiches then to do some risky bets or investments!
