Top Ten Rudest US States

Using a top ten list from the website thetoptens.com we will do a quick analysis of the ten most rude states in the United States.

Indiana

At number 10, this was a bit of a surprise to see a midwestern state on the list. A mostly agrarian society would make me think of happier people. From the comments section, sounds like the respondents are desperate to leave the state. Best comment:

"Indiana just sucks. Ugliest state ever. No clean rivers or lakes. People are extremely rude."

Washington

The beautiful northwest comes in at number 9. I can vouch for those who picked Washington state as a chart topper. One thing I've learned in life is to not disagree with these people, they are poised for a fight at the drop of a hat. Also, don't say anything conservative, you may trigger someone. Best comment:

" Lived in Seattle for 25 years this is right on. I think the phrase that fits Seattle is covertly hostile."

Utah

I've never been to Utah, hear it's beautiful. Surprisingly Utah makes the list. Apparently they have an issue with aggressive drivers. Best comment:

"People in Utah have no manners. They are loud, obnoxious and self-centered. Put your car blinker on and people will speed up. Say "Excuse me" when you are cornered in a grocery aisle and they will just stand in your way. Don't bother crossing at a crosswalk, the drivers will speed up and not stop even though you have the right of way. They let their bratty kids make a mess at stores and Utahns don't grasp a basic understanding of common courtesy."

Florida

The problem with Florida is that none of the people living their are from Florida. The transplants living their are all from other states that made this list. East coast Florida is all transplanted New Yorkers and people from New Jersey. The west coast is full up with the midwest and Germany. Sprinkle on top all of the retirees and you've got a perfect storm of rudeness. Tie for best comment:

"Born here, hate this place. Bug infested hole swamp full of fat ugly stupid people and the driving dead."

"Most people here are from your first and second place winners."

Ohio

Another surprise to me, the rust belt seems to be full of rude people. I guess when industry leaves society behind, people get kinda surly. The comments didn't yield a conclusive answer on why people in Ohio are rude. Top comment:

"They hate anyone that is not white straight and American - Ohio is where diversity goes to die"

Michigan

Here is an example of two states in one. The Upper Peninsula and the rest of the state. Granted this another state that lost much of it's manufacturing and that can make one bitter. The consensus of comments seems to target whiny people. Top comment:

"People there do nothing but complain but won't do anything to change their situations, and blame things on everyone but themselves. No one holds a door for anyone, and many other of the most common courtesies are completely nonexistent."

Connecticut

Now we are getting into my neck of the woods. Connecticut is home to Insurance companies, hedge fund managers and Indian casinos. As can be seen in the comments section, the people are not as rude as they are snooty and arrogant. Not surprising that a commuter state to NYC would be in the top 4. Best comment:

"Sense of entitlement -- always angry -- elitist -- rude -- quick to curse -- intolerant -- sharp, cutting accent -- inability to be graceful -- hurried -- stressed -- overwhelmed -- petty. have I missed anything? How I would love to be wrong! How I would love to say that people here are warm and inviting. But it would be a lie. I almost feel they're a little proud of their obnoxiousness."

New Jersey

My home state. Another state that commutes into NYC, not surprising. One of New Jersey's biggest problems is that it has so many roads that connect with NY. New Yorkers need to stay put and stop moving to the Jersey suburbs. All joking aside, New Jersey is pretty much packed to the tits with rude people. They'll be rude right to your face and tell you have an ugly baby. Best comment:

"I've been in NJ almost all my life, and I just like to say that... Yeah, we deserve to be 3rd."

Massachusetts

Driving is the key issue with these folks. They live up to their nickname "massholes!" I see one of those white and red license plates and I pull over for safety. Give them a wide berth, their capable of anything. Best comment:

"I have lived here my whole life and I love it. We have thick skin. No, we are not the nicest people, if you want nice don't come here. We don't say hello to every person on the street(people are nuts, we have enough of our own problems), and we don't play nice. If you do happen to get our attention we are just going to make fun of you and belittle you. It is how we show love to one another. Some may not understand it, but it is how we are, if you don't like it don't stay here. No one asked you to come here and if you are just going to whine about how "your" state is so much better than our state, by all means GO HOME! We don't want you here anyway. The less cry babies the better."

New York

Fuggetaboutit! If there were a point system to accompany this list, New York would lap the field. On some level it's unfair to lump the whole state in with New York City, but that's life. The outright brutish, rude, uncaring attitudes of New Yorkers is mindboggling. They'll drive around you in a crosswalk. I worked in NYC for a few years and those were depressing days. Number 1 by a mile. Best comments:

"The fact that I knew this would be #1 without seeing the list yet reaffirms my claim."

"I think New York is the most rudest state i. I went to New York for my birthday week. I was in line and someone skip me twice and guest what the business actually service them knowing they skip. Also my sister got the wrong order when she told them that it was wrong instead of given her the right meal they throw it away and throw her refund on top of the counter and served the next person. True story."

"This goes without saying. Matter of fact, the only reason Florida is even on this list is because it is full of New Yorkers."

There you have it, the top ten rudest states in the US. Every place you go, you'll find some good eggs and some bad apples, but certain places develop a reputation for a reason. The two clear trends that this list shows are that if your state touches NY, it is likely to have rude people and if you live in the rust belt you will find much the same.

What do you think? Any experiences with these areas?

As a native New Yorker I resemble that remark!! I'm actually not rude unless someone has been rude to me first. I give what I get.

But yeah I've had to step over a bum or 2. Comes with the territory.

Someone has to be #1. I know plenty of good New Yorkers having been in Jersey most of my life. lol.

This is why I come to Steemit! thanks for sharing @wakeupsheeps

I am from WA state and I can say that I am considered border-line weird for being nice. There are a lot of aggro men ready to fight and women who love to be bitches! But hey, there are always exceptions. I think it can be that negativity is contagious.... CANT WE ALL JUST GET ALONG DAMN IT!

Love it! Thanks for checking out the post.
