Today i read an Article that Earth's mantle lies just beneath the outer crust or about 10 km (6mi) beneath the ocean floor. It makes up more than 80% of the Earth's mass. Now Scientists are planing to drill into Earth's mantle, using Japanese scientific drilling ship "CHIKYU", which will drill through the seafloor before reaching the mantle. They hope to discover more about how our planet was formed. In addition to learning more about the chemical composition of the mantle.

Another goal is to see microbial life exist that deep inside the planet, and investigate the boundary between the oceanic crust and the mantle. Three drilling sites in the Pacific Ocean have been considered so far, They're located in Hawaii, Costa Rica and Mexico. The Project is expected to cost $542 Million. part of the funding will be provided by the Japanese Government.
