Blog 5: Star Trek Discovery & More

Some of you may have guessed that I'll be talking about Star Trek Discovery, you guessed right!

Quick disclaimer, I haven't read any other reviews or first impressions out there on the new Star Trek series. What's said here are my thoughts from the first few episodes I've seen so far.

Hello steemians. Sorry for not posting, midterms took a short term toll on my ability to be on here. However they're done now and things can slowly get back to normal until the next batch of tests and whatever else is thrown at me.

I've started to watch, Star Trek Discovery. I'd like to first off state that I in no shape or another consider this to be an actual Star Trek series and am trying really hard to watch it from the perspective that it's just another Sci-Fi film.

Perhaps in the days to come I'll do a "review" of some sorts when I finish the first season. Until then here are my initial impressions.

First off, holly crap; oh and quick note, if this sounds ranty its because it is! What the hell happened to the Klingon's? I can't even begin to express how disappointing I am at that bombshell of a disaster. For those of you who may not know. What I'm talking about I'll link a comparison picture bellow.

Perhaps I'm being a little too picky, but still, this wasn't in my opinion the right choice for this serious and it doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of other weird script and design decisions.

The whole feeling and look of the series is extremely off too. Star Trek Discovery is supposed to take place before the Kirk, ten years to be exact. Good god in heaven why does everything look super slick, and high techy? Like I understand that this is a new show and they're likely trying to appeal to a bigger audience but you're also alienating your hardcore Star Trek fans. Clearly I'm not one of them.

There aren't terrible differences between the two ships and perhaps the pictures don't do my explanation any justice. However if you take the time to watch the show you can definitely tell the difference in visual quality. Discovery makes everything look super shiny and brand new where as the original series gives a more rustic feeling.

OH! I cannot fail to mention that the main character in the story who is a female name is Michael! Is it just me or is there some kind of identity politics agenda here, is that crazy? Either way I think it's down right stupid to give a female a dudes name.

Star Trek Rant aside. This past weeks has been pretty hectic, got a high B on my midterm in sociology. Was pretty surprised with the result as some were very difficult while others were pretty straight forward. I'm just glad it's out of the way.

I'm going to try and record some video content for a game you guys might like to see. Not sure how that will go, but we'll see. I'm choosing No Man's Sky ...

But why would you ever play that train-wreck of a game?

Well to be fair yes it was a train-wreck when it first launched. I just happened not to buy during that time and waited a good year before purchasing. And it just so happens that I love space sims, I thought about Elite Dangerous, but couldn't justify the price-tag and the content available.

Not to mention they have the whole seasonal pass thing which you need to fork over money monthly just to obtain content which otherwise would be locked out to you. No Man's Sky was on sale and it just seemed like a better choice.
