Steem Blogging Front Ends Should Introduce A Possibility To Comment Without A Steem Account

in blogging •  5 years ago  (edited)

Out there in the larger blogosphere outside the Steem ecosystem, most blogging platforms allow commenting blogs without creating an account. Currently, it is completely impossible for anyone to interact with an interesting post using any of the popular Steem front ends without having a Steem account. I've heard some apps have guest accounts owned by the front end that anyone can use by logging into the website using a social media or an email account. But as far as I know, none of the most popular front ends have that feature in their roadmaps.

It would be helpful if a front end maintained an internal database of the identities of the guest commentators and offered them an opportunity to claim an account of their own once they had earned enough SP use their own accounts comfortably. It should be easy to comment a post as a guest. It should be possible to drop a comment even anonymously. That, too, is feature regularly found on various blogging platforms.

Why would this be so important? There are blogging communities and lists of bloggers out there in the wider world that include blogs regardless of the platform they use. What better way would there be for someone to promote Steem but to make their Steem blog an organic part of a platform-independent community of bloggers? That would help generate traffic on Steem without having to even onboard anyone.

SteemPeak is working on Guest Commenting ... however we had to rearrange the schedule to do COMMUNITY features first. We'll get back onto Guest Commenting soon... we believe it's extremely important.

Glad to hear that!

I have picked your post for my daily voting initiative! Keep it up and Steem on!

3Speak has guest accounts and so does Steempeak. Work is going on behind the scenes to have a guest account standard across all of Steem.

That's great. I tested logging in to Steempeak with my Facebook account. It worked fine. Commenting wasn't available, yet. But it will be soon.

When you're not logged in, you can't comment at all. It would be helpful if the UI directed readers who are not logged in to create a guest account when they pressed the reply button. The process of creating a guest account using Facebook/email/etc. already works fine. There's just some fine tuning to do when it comes to he user experience. @midlet is the right person to discuss these things with because he/she is a professional UX designer.

Very good idea! My friends would love this! You’ll recruit more members this way!
