I recently bought a newly released CD by Gary Moore - Blues and Beyond. I got a 2 CD version (apparently there is a 4 CD version with some live in concert songs) which is a compilation of more of his recent (since 2000) works. I am a big fan of Gary Moore, having bought most of his CDs, especially since he switched to the Blues in 1990. I am amazed by his playing in this set. He can easily be considered one of the best blues rock guitarists of all time in my opinion.
He was born in 1952 and sadly passed away in 2011 at the age of 59. He is a native Irishman, having gotten his start in the late 1960s. His first notable band was Skid Row, which he was a member from 1968-1970. The band released a couple of albums while Gary was with them. Here is one song from that time.
Skid Row: Unco-Up Showband Blues
Gary caught the attention of Phil Lynott of Thin LIzzy and he joined the band in 1974, then again in 1977-1980. Here is one of my favorite songs from his early Thin Lizzy days:
Thin Lizzy: Still In Love with You (this is a live version):
Here is a second from the Black Rose Album. I like this one because it is very Irish and has a historical theme.
Thin Lizzy: Roisin Dubh (Black Rose) A Rock Legend:
Gary left Thin Lizzy and joined a jazz rock fusion band called Colosseum II. Here is a song from that part of his career.
Colosseum II: The Scorch
Gary had a bit of a heavy rock/metal career in the 1980s. I actually bought one of his albums from 1982, Corridors of Power. This song is one of my favorites from that album.
Gary Moore: Don't Take Me for a Loser.
In 1990, Gary went back to his roots and released a land mark album in his career: Still Got the Blues. Again, I was all over this album when it was released after having come to love the blues in the 1980s.
Here is an original cut from that album, King of the Blues:
Which brings us to the current album I referenced at the start. I tend to like slow blues/blues rock so I am going to post the song I like alot, but it is 12 minutes long. Ball and Chain from Blues and Beyond:
I know there will be those who will disagree with me but you do have to admit Gary Moore is a very talented guitar player and his passing at age 59 was a loss to the blues rock community. Let me know what you think, I love to hear others thoughts on this subject. Maybe you want to propose another guitarist. Thanks and Rock On!
He was a very good guitarist indeed. I looked his rocky stuff

I like most of his stuff, blues, rock, blues rock. Not so much the jazz though.

Gary Moore is one of my Rock-God-Guitar Heroes. My first album of his was Blues Alive, and grinding blues guitars don't git much betterin that. I'm with you tho, I like pieces of a lot of different types of music, but it comes back to the feel of the blues. While not a guitar god, how do you feel about Keb Mo?

I’m not gonna lie, blues rock and classic rock are where my tastes lie, Ken Mo is a little too country blues for me, I need the rock guitar sound, not the acoustic blues. I have honed my tastes down and while I like a lot of music I’ll always fall back on rock and blues rock

Acoustic, delta blues is generally not my thing either... But Keb just strikes me in a good spot. Same with a couple of female jazz voices. But, you're right, I generally come back to growling blues. Michael Bloomfield. John Cipollina. Carlos. Clapton live (24 Nights is great). Any new live stuff you've got, just let me know.

All good choices, I buy a LOT of CDs, I have hundreds if not thousands. Live isn't always my favorite though. I do recomend the new Gary Moore CD, it is really good. There might be a 4 cd version with two discs of live music. I bought off Amazon but didn't see that one. Clapton's 24 nights is a really good cd. I buy most of Joe Bonamassa's stuff and he puts out a lot of live cds.

I have a 24 Nights DVD which is great to watch. Loud. I probably only have a few hundred CDs. I've tapered off in my old age. In the last year I bought Jeff Healey's Mess of Blues which I've really enjoyed.

I have that one also. pretty good. I don't really have many DVDs, I have a hard time "watching" music, I listen while I do my custom figurines or in my truck driving

Yeah, I crank it up while I write. Altho, there are times when it's great to just lie back and close my eyes and absorb it thru my toes on up.

Gary Moore is one of the greatest guitarists in blues-rock, but also in hard-rock. Must talk about Stevie Ray Vaughan who was an innovator on the 80s and Jeff Healey another great bluesman in the 90s, "See The Light" is still one of my alltime favorite albums. In the 2000's Joe Bonamassa is the king, but I also like bands like Supersonic Blues Machine (with Lance Lopez) or young guitar players like Anthony Gomes, Simon McBride or Ryan McGarvey

Yes for sure SRV and Jeff Healey are great, I generally buy everything by both and I too like SSBM, and the other players you mentioned. You might want to check out Grooveyard Records if you haven’t already, great stuff if that label including a lot of Lance Lopez stuff

Yeah! I have several albums from Grooveyard Records (Craig Erichson, Blindstone, Buddaheads and Lance Lopez among others). In Europe there is also another Record Company that focuses in blues-rock, Ruf Records.

I love Gary Moore, saw him once as a (yes really) a support act for Tina Turner in Utrecht The Netherlands. He just released his 'Still got the blues' album... I was blown away by his guitar play... And indeed I think he is THE best modern blues guitarist with the rocky edge....
Did you saw his version of Red House at the Fender Strat aniversary concert? Massive.....

I don’t see much live stuff, Montana is not known for being a hot stop on many concert tours but I generally buy CDs and live ones by my fav artists. Oh I’m sure it was awesome!

I think Europe is small enough with a much larger population that the bands will hit more venues near to you
