On September 21, 2020, there was a flash flood in the Bogor and Sukabumi districts which was caused by heavy rains. High intensity rainfall of up to 110 mm in a 4 hour period (15.00-19.00 WIB) was observed at Citeko. This heavy rain is triggered by unstable atmospheric conditions and is strengthened by the equatorial Rossby wave phenomenon and the presence of wind confluence (convergence) areas. The combination of these three atmospheric phenomena increases the potential for rain cloud growth around West Java.

Regarding this incident, BMKG has issued early warning information on extreme weather on a 3-hour time scale for the West Java region before the flash flood on September 21, 2020, 5 times starting from 13.45 WIB to 22.50 WIB.

The potential for heavy rain that occurs during the day / afternoon in the Bogor area can indirectly increase the potential for water overflow around the Ciliwung river basin, so people are urged to be aware of potential inundation.
