Hobbies #2 - 7 Wonders Duel

in boardgames •  7 years ago  (edited)

Tonight I had a rare night at home so my wife decided that we would play a board game. It has been awhile since we last played 7 Wonders Duel so we decided to bring it to the table (or bed in tonight's case).

We played on the bed as we could keep an eye on our baby girl. I'm having my 4-year-old boy sleep beside the baby as well. So far there hasn't been any major accidents yet except once seeing him put his whole leg on her neck :/

Here's the setup at the start of the game. The story behind this is we're basically building our civilization. Each of us have 4 wonders to build as well. We win the game by points. There are also special cases whereby if your military becomes super OP or you've done some serious scientific research, you win outright. The basic mechanism of this game is card drafting, meaning we take turns taking a card to add to our civilization. As you can see I've chosen The Massoleum, Circus Maximus, The Great Library, and The Colossus as my wonders. Let's see if I manage to construct them or not ;)

The game is played over 3 ages (3 stages). This is my progress after Age I. 6 coins to my name. Building up my army (red cards) and collecting some basic resources (brown cards) so it'll be easy for me to build other buildings in the future. Age II has a different layout and my wife being weaker in the military got to decide who starts first in Age II.

By the end of Age II it was obvious I totally abandoned the Science Research strategy (no green cards). No wonders built yet as well. Only 8 coins as I've forgotten to claim more coins due to owning some trade cards (yellow cards).

The game was over when we finished Age III cards. I ended up bulding a lot of victory point buildings (blue cards). Didn't manage to build any wonder. :/

My wife actually managed 3 wonders! And she had a more balanced gameplay with her have a variety of buildings/cards in her collection. Now let's see if I managed to beat her using my 'abandon wonder & science' strategy. ;)

And I beat her by 8 points! Took revenge on the last few times she beat me on this. All in all, we had a good time trash-talking and denying each other. A good hour spent with some feeding time in between. If you and your partner are into board games, do give this a try. It's actually a spin-off from 7 Wonders, a card-drafting board game designed for up to 7 players. Alright, I've geeked you enough. Signing off!

Must be a really cute scene.
Haha what a great bonding time with your wife! :)))

he's been a pretty good big brother :)

always nice to disconnect from the screen. my board games seriously need more attention as well ;)

HAHAHA! You always manage to find the most unconventional ways to win! Or maybe you want us to think you don't have a strategy ....

hahahaha! like that also can. thanks for reading lah. I think board games don't really attract the general population. geeky us 🤓

THis is such abd adorable post, I loved it! Especially throwing in the baby 1 threw leg over baby 2s neck! What the? LoL
Also the bed scenario was cute and the cards were laid out so nicely. Is nedd some pros to teach me though, it almost looks like a civilization/Magic Game that has a lot of detail. Glad you won, that makes for the best post! Happy Friday (if you are on my side of the world!)xx 🦅

thanks for dropping by. both of them are a cute bunch. baby 1 is a pretty good big brother. :)

you come from the land of board games! one of the bigger conventions are held over there. the craziest geeks are there! hahaha! I'm sure some of your friends might secretly be having board game nights :p

My entire family does, has game night that is ... geek and board game convention. Funny!

Damn. Looks interesting but complicated at the same time. @siren87 really likes board games though.
You gotta teach us one day

yes let's! haha. it's a very geeky activity though 😎

This is a really fun game, my wife enjoys this one. I think I actually like it more than regular 7 Wonders.

ooo. a boardgamer onboard! will check out your posts! :)

I might have to get this one for us. Thank you for sharing. Sounds like y'all had fun with it.

we did! you play board games yourself? :)

Of course! Super nerd here 😌. Love a good board game after dinner with a drink or some coffee, or all day board game tournament throw downs! Especially with all these niche game that have been created now that things like that are more affordable to create, you know?

ahh. a fellow nerd. nice nice 🤓

we usually pull an all-nighter here. what kind of niche games are you referring to? sadly I recently parted with 2 OOPs (Puerto Rico 10th Anniversary and Glory to Rome) as I was in need of funds :(

I really like Munchkins! That's one of my favorites. These different styles of battling and adventuring card games are cool. I thought this one was you posted about was super neat. I loved Age of Empires, so it reminds me of that in a way, with the Ages and development of stuff. Would be could if they had a very in depth, civilization growth, card game... maybe slide in some Risk influence. I guess you have a game called Earth at that point... lol

ahh. I know Munchkins. the one where you need to reach level 10. and once you’re at level 9 everyone starts going at you!

I have Age of Empires III the board game. it’s pretty neat I must say! there’s also Civilization as well. I like the city building theme as well :)

Very cool. I will have to check those out soon!
