Side decks and a trailer

Daylight savings has come and gone, taking the evening light with it. This makes weekday progress a little slower, but things are still moving forward. I’ve managed to get internalbframes and deck frames completed and am ready to install the plywood side decks and forward casting deck. This process will require careful planing and measurement of the plywood to get it flush with the rails and frames.

I played with cardboard planning to get a feel for the width of the decks and determine whether or not to add a rear deck.

Meanwhile, a missing component of this project has been the means of moving the boat to the water and back. I needed a trailer. I found trailers of every style and condition on Craigslist, and ultimately found a sweet deal for a single axle bass boat trailer for $350. The trailer is built from c-channel and has minimal surface rust. All is in order , but mods must be made to level the bunks for accepting a flat bottom boat.

A few evening meetings will limit progress this week but decks will be installed this weekend ,and my motor is expected in port as well. The rest is a matter of deliberate use of free time towards the project to finished by a he end of the year.

I’ve considered naming the boat at the recommendation of friends and family. I think a crowd-sourced name contest makes a lot of sense, considering that the entire project evolved from the web, followed by purchases of equipment and materials from the web, advice from the web, and new friendships from the web. I worry, however, that I’ll end up with “boaty mcboatface” like the famous boat naming contest from last year.
