In recent weeks many are talking about autonomous cars that will not require a driver. But Boeing decided to go one step further and announced a technology that would allow long-haul flights without the need for remote control of the machine.
Boeing's announcement sounds bold, but the company is set to launch its first technology test in 2019 . . It uses artificial intelligence that will make the same decisions as the pilot during the flight.
Mike Sinnet, Boeing's vice president, said that autonomous planes are a song of the future, but that the technology already exists. He added that such machines would have to provide adequate safety standards and even be able to make emergency landing properly. Also like the famous landings known as the Hudson River miracle. If this is not possible, they will not develop further.
In addition, Boeing announced plans for a new aircraft. This is to be an intermediate model between models 737 (short-range) and model 787 (much larger, used over long distances). The new plane would accommodate between 220 and 270 passengers. Quoted source suggests that the first copies may be ready in 2025.
This solution would be different from the autopilot completely taking over the responsibilities of the pilot by appropriate algorithms. So far, landing and landing, which are the most challenging, were usually hand-made by man. Only in modern airplanes is the autopilot able to land on adequately equipped airports with the ILS system.
