On Wednesday, Boeing is again set to build 737 Max without getting any authorization to fly from Federal Aviation Administration, as the demand for planes is almost dying. The statement from the airline came at the moment when Boeing announced to lay off 6770 employees from the jobs. Plus, 5520, other employees voluntarily left the job for buyout offers.
The move by the airline industry to cancel or delay the distribution of new airplanes due to the crisis caused by the COVID-19 epidemic compelled Boeing to reduce its production plan significantly for at least many coming years. Boeing kept on producing the Max 737, the bestselling jet of the company, even after March 2019, following the two main deadly crashes causing 346 deaths.
It produced more than 400 jets that the company wasn’t able to bring in before putting a stop on the production in January following continuous delays in getting the authorization to fly again. The flying company is now expecting to get permission in the mid of this year. Though, Boeing temporarily stopped the plane production in Jan before the COVID-19 hit most of the world’s airlines.
The Boeing CEO, Dave Calhoun, states that it is hopeless to produce without a proper supply chain. Since the novel coronavirus outbreak has started and caused the air to trip, airlines and aircraft leasing firms annulled orders of 299 Max 737. An extra 240 aircraft companies have modified the status of their order, and Boeing is no longer considering them as company orders. Therefore, Boeing is considering to produce 737 Max again.
Currently, Boeing is holding more than 3800 firm orders about 737 Max production in its books. Meanwhile, few of the global airlines, that delayed the jet delivery because of the number of the planes they grounded express that they will soon take the delivery of Max 737.
