Padmaavat features Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji and Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh. The film is inspired by Malik Muhammad Jayasi's 16th century epic poem, Padmavat.
Padmaavat revolves around Alauddin Khilji's siege of Chittorgarh fort in 1303, in an attempt to capture the beautiful Rani Padmavati, who committed jauhar (self-immolation) to avoid falling into his clutches.
The Sanjay Leela Bhansali film had facing violent protests after reports of a romantic dream sequence between Rani Padmavati and Alauddin Khilji started doing the rounds.
Despite several clarifications from Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the team that no such scene was part of the film, the agitation did not cease, and the film did not release in some parts of the country.
Padmaavat is expected to continue having a fantastic run at the box office, as it will face no competition till Friday (February 9), when the next big Bollywood release, Akshay Kumar and Sonam Kapoor-starrer Pad Man hits the screens.
